  • Patent number: 5195824
Abstract: A system is provided for mixing of concentrated liquid gelling agent and water to form a fracturing fluid for fracturing of a subterranean formation. High shear rotary mixers are utilized in a blender tub to provide efficient hydration of the concentrated liquid gelling agent and water mixture.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: April 12, 1991
Date of Patent: March 23, 1993
    Assignee: Halliburton Company
Inventors: James L. Stromberg, Dennis Brown, Vincent G. Reidenbach, Donald E. Bailey
  • Patent number: 4830794
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for producing a proppant carrying foamed fracturing fluid or the like having very high ratios of proppant material to the liquid phase of the foam, which can be substantially higher than even the theoretical maximum ratio available when the proppant is introduced into a foaming apparatus as a proppant/liquid slurry. This is accomplished by a dry sand foam generation process wherein the sand or other particulate material is introduced into a foam generator apparatus as a dry particulate material in a stream of gas which is subsequently mixed with a second liquid stream.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 11, 1988
Date of Patent: May 16, 1989
    Assignee: Halliburton Company
Inventors: Kevin D. Edgley, James L. Stromberg

  • Patent number: 4624483
Abstract: A coupling apparatus is provided for connection to a cylindrical member. The coupling apparatus includes a body member and an annular seal between the body member and the cylindrical member. A plurality of collet sections are disposed about the body member, and each collet section has a first end connected to the body member and a second end adapted for engagement with a downward facing surface of a shoulder of the cylindrical member. An outer sleeve is slidable relative to the collet sections between an open position wherein the second ends of the collet sections are held in a relatively radially expanded position and a closed position. A release device is operably associated with the plurality of collet sections and the outer sleeve for moving the second ends of the collet sections to their relatively radially expanded position upon sliding of the outer sleeve from its closed position to its open position.

  • Patent number: 4566168
Abstract: A coupling apparatus for connection to a cylindrical member having a radially outward extending shoulder includes a body member. A collet assembly including a plurality of collet fingers is disposed around the body member and each of the collet fingers includes a radially inward extending flange adapted to engage a lower surface of the shoulder of the cylindrical member. An actuating sleeve operably associated with the collet assembly moves the flanges of the collet fingers between a radially expanded open position and a radially contracted closed position. An annular seal is provided between the body member and the cylindrical member. An adjustable collet positioning apparatus is operably associated with the body member and the collet assembly for adjusting a longitudinal position of the flanges of the collet fingers relative to the body member.

  • Patent number: 4522430
Abstract: Apparatus and methods are provided for coupling a body member to a cylindrical member having a radially outward extending shoulder thereon. A coupling includes the body member and an annular seal for sealing between the body member and the cylindrical member. A plurality of collet sections are disposed around the body member, each of the collet sections having an upper end connected to the body member and having a lower end adapted for engagement with a lower end surface of the shoulder of the cylindrical member. An outer sleeve is slidably disposed about the plurality of collet sections and is slidable relative to the collet sections between an open position wherein the lower ends of the collet sections may receive the shoulder of the cylindrical member therebetween, and a closed position wherein the body member is sealingly coupled to the cylindrical member.
