  • Publication number: 20060193310
Abstract: A method and apparatus for modifying a telephone network to create a local area network over telephony (LAN/T) communication system network is disclosed. By employing special coupler/filter arrangements that allow broadband communication signals to pass but preclude telephony signals from passing, a network of multiple telephony lines carrying separate telephony signals can be integrated into a single broadband network without interfering with ongoing telephony traffic.

  • Publication number: 20060193336
Abstract: A method and apparatus for modifying a cable network to create a local area network is disclosed. By employing a communications modem configured to transmit first communication signals over one or more coaxial cables using a first allocated spectrum designed to avoid contention with ongoing upstream television control signals, an infrastructure capable of carrying demand cable television and LAN signals can be created.

  • Patent number: 6633628
Abstract: A method and apparatus for selecting a supported signal path for a transceiver in a communication system is provided. An exemplary embodiment of the apparatus includes a relay for selecting a first test signal path from a first signal path and a second signal path. A signal detector coupled to the relay may be used to determine whether a specified signal type is present on the first test signal path. A relay controller causes the relay to select a second test signal path from the first signal path and the second signal path in response to the signal detector determining that the specified signal type is not present on the first test signal path.

  • Patent number: 5175767
Abstract: An in-band framing encoder having a data input and a data output, for continuously operating a CPE-framed-data signal having CPE-framing data and payload data. The CPE-framed-data signal includes a plurality of time-division-multiplexed frames of payload data achieving channel integrity with CPE-framing data. The encoder comprises a framing-data detector coupled to the data input for detecting the CPE-framing data of CPE-framed-data signal, and a framing-data remover removes the CPE-framing data from the CPE-framed-data signal. A unique-bit-pattern generator generates a unique-bit-pattern sequence. A multiplexer multiplexes the unique-bit-pattern sequence with payload data over the plurality of time-division-multiplexed frames of payload data, thereby generating an in-band-framed-data signal having the unique-bit pattern sequence multiplexed with the payload data.

  • Patent number: 5003599
Abstract: An in-band framing encoder, for continuously operating on bit stream having external-framing data and payload data. The bit stream includes a plurality of time-division-multiplexed frames of payload data achieving channel integrity with external-framing data. The encoder comprises a framing-bit detector and a framing-bit remover for detecting the external-framing data of the bit stream, and removing the external-framing data from the bit stream. A unique-bit-pattern generator generates a unique-bit-pattern sequence. A multiplexer multiplexes the unique-bit-pattern sequence with payload data over the plurality of time-division-multiplexed frames of payload data, thereby generating internally-reframed data having the unique-bit-pattern sequence multiplexed with the payload data.
