  • Publication number: 20090179033
Abstract: An opening device of plastics material, which is suitable for closing and re-closing of a metal can end, for example. The opening device has two distinct parts: a base plate (10) and a tab (1), which are joined together by an integral rivet (14, 15). The opening device is used to close an aperture in the metal panel of a can end by fitting the base plate to the underside of the panel and connecting this to the tab on the top of the panel. A sliding action by pulling or retaining the tab actuates movement of the base plate for opening and reclosing of the closure panel.

  • Publication number: 20080306353
Abstract: A method of providing blood glucose therapy for a critically ill patient includes calculating a baseline nutrition feed requirement based on an algorithm that incorporates at least one of age, gender, and body size of the patient: determining a first blood glucose level; determining a second blood glucose level after a preselected time interval: determining a first body temperature reading: comparing the blood glucose levels: and administering either nutrition or insulin. The amount of nutrition administered to the patient is based on a first change in blood glucose level, the current body temperature reading, and a predetermined feed algorithm based on the second blood glucose level as well as the baseline nutritional feed requirement. The amount of insulin administered is based on a second change in blood glucose level, body temperature, and a predetermined insulin algorithm that incorporates at least one of the patient's body frame size, age, and gender.

  • Patent number: 5901918
Abstract: An apparatus and method for winding tissue webs into a parent roll is disclosed which results in greater uniformity in sheet basis weight, machine direction stretch and bulk when comparing the corresponding sheet properties taken from representative locations throughout the roll. The apparatus and method includes engaging the tissue web against a reel spool with a flexible member such as a transfer belt which traverses an unsupported span between two support rolls. The web is transferred from the transfer belt to the parent roll as the parent roll is urged against the sheet/transfer belt at a point within the unsupported span. The resulting deflection of the transfer belt is detected and, in response, the reel spool position is changed to control the deflection at a desired level. Accordingly, a predetermined light nip pressure can be applied to the roll as the tissue web is wound thereon and large parent rolls of high bulk tissue can be manufactured with desired properties when unwound.
