Patent number: 11959280Abstract: Roofing shingles are disclosed that are capable of self-adhering to a roof deck or underlayment and/or other roofing shingles and that require few or no mechanical fasteners to remain attached to the roof. By appropriate positioning of sealant lines on the shingle, direct adhesion between the shingle and the roof deck or underlayment and/or other roofing shingles can be achieved. If the shingle is laminated, the layers may be mechanically attached with indentations in the common bond area. The nail zone of the shingle may be visually indicated with fines and/or one or more paint lines. A roofing system comprising a plurality of courses of the shingles is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2022Date of Patent: April 16, 2024Assignee: BMIC LLCInventors: Daniel E. Boss, Ming-Liang Shiao, James Svec, Chris Searcy, Nicholas Thurston

Publication number: 20240113325Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for manufacturing and implementing solid-state electrolytes (SSEs) for aluminum-based rechargeable batteries and other secondary batteries. In some examples, a SSE composition may include a mixture including urea, sodium chloride, sodium borate, magnesium sulfate, and sodium silicate. In certain examples, the SSE composition may further include carboxymethyl cellulose. In some examples, an aluminum-based secondary battery may be formed by applying a first portion of the SSE composition to an aluminum-based anode via slot-die coating and a second portion of the SSE composition to a cellulose membrane to form a SSE layer, and combining the coated aluminum-based anode, the SSE layer, and a sulfur-based cathode. In certain examples, a current pulse may be applied to the aluminum-based secondary battery to activate in situ solid-electrolyte interphase layers.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 3, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: David Shock, Yujia Liang, Daniel Wainwright Shaw, James Bradley Downar, III

Publication number: 20240108433Abstract: Devices and methods for improved access to a surgical site are the basis of the present disclosure. The improved access can be provided by way of a displacement wrap that can be used to engage tissue that impedes access to the surgical site. The displacement wrap, which can be a textile, can be wrapped around the tissue and subsequently manipulated to move the wrap, and thus the tissue, out of the way to improve access. The displacement wrap includes locking features formed in it that allow for selective tensioning of the tissue being engaged and moved. The locking features can engage another portion of the wrap and/or can be engaged by another component associated with the wrap, such as a locking suture. Methods of using the wrap in various surgical procedures that would benefit from moving tissue to improve surgical site access are also provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 25, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Stephen J. Orphanos, Vivian Liang, James Brownhill, Mollie Waters, Michael Fortin

Patent number: 11933021Abstract: This description provides an autonomous or semi-autonomous excavation vehicle that is capable of navigating through a dig site and carrying an excavation routine using a system of sensors physically mounted to the excavation vehicle. The sensors collect one or more of spatial, imaging, measurement, and location data representing the status of the excavation vehicle and its surrounding environment. Based on the collected data, the excavation vehicle executes instructions to perform an excavation routine by excavating earth from a hole using an excavation tool positioned at a single location within the site. The excavation vehicle is also able to carry out numerous other tasks, such as checking the volume of excavated earth in an excavation tool, navigating the excavation vehicle over a distance while continuously excavating earth from a below surface depth, and preparing a digital terrain model of the site as part of a process for creating the excavation routine.Type: GrantFiled: October 12, 2022Date of Patent: March 19, 2024Assignee: BUILT ROBOTICS INC.Inventors: Noah Austen Ready-Campbell, Gaurav Jitendra Kikani, Andrew Liang, Pradeesh Suganthan, James Alan Emerick, Sarah Marie Thornton, Ammar Idris Kothari, Edward Joseph Garza

Publication number: 20210350045Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for providing virtual bags that can be used to simulate and quantify performance of different explosive detection system architectures. The virtual bags can be provided to a simulator for designing and simulating operation of imaging scanners, including X-ray and millimeter-wave based threat detection equipment deployed in transit facilities and other secure locations. One example method of generating container models for a container inspection system includes generating a plurality of objects using a probability function; generating a respective position, scale, and orientation for each of the objects within a container having a defined boundary; generating pairings for a respective material for each of the objects using a probability function; and storing a container instance indicating at least one of: the generated pairings, the respective object positions, object scales, object orientation, the objects, or the respective materials in a computer-readable storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2019Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of the University of ArizonaInventors: Amit Ashok, James Liang Chih Huang

Patent number: 8620315Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to providing a multi-tiered anti-abuse approach to registration of a mobile device user. A registration service may determine whether communications with the mobile device is through a trusted carrier gateway, and if so, then a mobile device identifier may be used to automatically register the mobile device. Otherwise, a determination may be made whether the mobile device is configured to support a challenge-response image. In one embodiment, such determination may be based, in part, on information received from the mobile device through a user agent, or the like. If the mobile device is capable of supporting a challenge-response image, one may be sent to the mobile device to enable registration. If, however, the mobile device does not support the challenge-response image and the carrier gateway is not trusted, the mobile device may be directed to employ an SMS mechanism to complete registration.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Yahoo!
