Publication number: 20210350045Abstract: Apparatus and methods are disclosed for providing virtual bags that can be used to simulate and quantify performance of different explosive detection system architectures. The virtual bags can be provided to a simulator for designing and simulating operation of imaging scanners, including X-ray and millimeter-wave based threat detection equipment deployed in transit facilities and other secure locations. One example method of generating container models for a container inspection system includes generating a plurality of objects using a probability function; generating a respective position, scale, and orientation for each of the objects within a container having a defined boundary; generating pairings for a respective material for each of the objects using a probability function; and storing a container instance indicating at least one of: the generated pairings, the respective object positions, object scales, object orientation, the objects, or the respective materials in a computer-readable storage device.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2019Publication date: November 11, 2021Applicant: Arizona Board of Regents on behalf of the University of ArizonaInventors: Amit Ashok, James Liang Chih Huang

Patent number: 8620315Abstract: Various embodiments are directed to providing a multi-tiered anti-abuse approach to registration of a mobile device user. A registration service may determine whether communications with the mobile device is through a trusted carrier gateway, and if so, then a mobile device identifier may be used to automatically register the mobile device. Otherwise, a determination may be made whether the mobile device is configured to support a challenge-response image. In one embodiment, such determination may be based, in part, on information received from the mobile device through a user agent, or the like. If the mobile device is capable of supporting a challenge-response image, one may be sent to the mobile device to enable registration. If, however, the mobile device does not support the challenge-response image and the carrier gateway is not trusted, the mobile device may be directed to employ an SMS mechanism to complete registration.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: December 31, 2013Assignee: Yahoo! Inc.Inventors: Arthur Merritt, Zhaowei Charlie Jiang, James Liang

Patent number: 8361409Abstract: A system for disinfecting and purifying aqueous solutions and water for drinking purposes comprising an outer pouch, a disinfectant generating device, and an inorganic coagulant. The disinfectant generating device is provided with a membrane shell defining at least two compartments which house a first reactant, a second reactant, and an inorganic coagulant. The disinfectant generating device is capable of producing a disinfectant when exposed to water or moisture and the disinfectant exits the compartment through the membrane shell. The inorganic coagulant aid the formation of flocs of the suspended dispersed particles in the aqueous solution.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 2006Date of Patent: January 29, 2013Assignee: Odorstar Technology, LLCInventors: Bernardo N. Patent number: 7996000Abstract: A network device, system, and method are directed towards enabling a determination for page size tailoring of content based, in part, on estimating of effects of processes applicable to preparing the content for use on a specified mobile device. Before performing the processes on the content, an estimation of the effects of the configuring processes may be determined. If the estimated content size is determined to be too large for the specified mobile device's memory footprint, page tailoring techniques may be applied to the content. Such page tailoring techniques may include stretching the content across a plurality of files, discarding a portion of the content, reducing portions of the content, or the like. Various processes may then be applied to the content to configure it for use on the specified mobile device.Type: GrantFiled: September 29, 2006Date of Patent: August 9, 2011Assignee: Yahoo! Inc.Inventors: Micah Dubinko, Chen Li, Heidi Ann Pollock, James Liang, Jeff Leung, Michael Jeremy Temkin, Cynthia Johanson, Zhaowei Charlie Jiang, Boaz Aharon Shaham, Hei Chan
