  • Publication number: 20040240436
Abstract: A method and apparatus for reducing voice latency in a voice-over-data wireless communication system. In a transmitter, data frames are created from audio information by a vocoder and stored in a queue. Prior to storage, some of the data frames are eliminated, or dropped, and are not stored in the queue. In a receiver, data frames are generated from received signals and stored in a queue. Prior to storage in the receiver queue, some of the data frames are dropped. Data frames are dropped either at a single fixed rate, a dual fixed rate, or a variable rate, generally depending on a communication channel latency. By dropping data frames at the transmitter, the receiver, or both, voice latency due to data frame retransmissions is reduced.

  • Publication number: 20030103515
Abstract: In a transmitter, data segments are transmitted in accordance with a predefined data protocol. The predefined data protocol is modified to define a first segment size and a second segment size. The first segment size represents a minimum segment size that can be transmitted. The second segment size represents a maximum segment size that can be transmitted. A segment is created and transmitted whenever a quantity of time-sensitive information available for transmission allows a segment to be constructed having a segment size between the minimum segment size and the maximum segment size. A segment of any size up to the maximum segment size is also created and transmitted whenever any time-sensitive information is available for transmission and an acknowledgement message is received by the transmitter.

  • Patent number: 6491824
Abstract: A method for resolving sludge/emulsion formed as a result of adding introduced fluids to oil and gas wells. The method comprises adding a water-dispersible emulsion breaker and/or adjunct additives that may include iron-control chemicals, scale-control chemicals, or paraffin-control chemicals or combinations thereof in amounts sufficient to separate the sludge/emulsion into an oil phase and a water phase and to control iron, scale, or paraffin in the oil phase. Further treatment of water phase includes treatment with water clarifiers, allowing the water phase to remain in settling vessels, and passing the water phase through a macroreticular resin resulting in water that is environmentally acceptable for disposal.

  • Patent number: 6460795
Abstract: A reel mounted at the midpoint of a telescoping mast for antennas. The reel winds a multi-celled ribbon cable in two directions at once. The cable passes through the hub of the reel to feed in both winding directions. The reel is mounted on the mast with a clamp that fits a range of existing mast sizes, and distributes the stress of the reel on the mast sufficiently to avoid distortion of the mast. The reel preferably has a cable tensioner wheel on both cable feeds to prevent the cable from slipping off the reel. A selection of cables can be pulled through the multi-celled ribbon sheath by an installer to support a given installation. The outer plate of the reel can be easily removed to remove the cable sheath from the hub for changing the selection of cables in the sheath.

  • Patent number: 6223133
Abstract: The present invention is a method for optimizing multivariate calibrations such as those used on FT-IR analyzers. The method involves the selection of an optimum subset of samples to use in the calibration from a larger set of available samples. The subset selection is done so as to minimize the bias of the resulting calibration while simultaneously maintaining acceptable standard errors and ensuring maximal range for the model.

  • Patent number: 6132619
Abstract: A method for resolving sludge/emulsion formed as a result of acidization of oil and gas wells comprising the steps of adding an iron-control chemical in an amount sufficient to prevent the formation of insoluble iron compounds, and adding a water-dispersible emulsion breaker in an amount sufficient to separate the sludge/emulsion into clean oil and water. Further treatment of the waste water with water clarifiers, settling vessels and passing it through a macroreticular resin results in water that is at least less than 29 mg/L total oil and grease for overboard discharges from offshore facilities.

  • Patent number: 5968638
Abstract: Multiple sheets spiral bound together as a unit by a continuous filament. The sheets have a plurality of closely spaced perforations aligned along an edge thereof. The filament is an elongated rod-like member having an outer surface and a centrally-located longitudinal axis. The filament is flexible and is disposed in spiral configuration through the perforations. The filament additionally comprises an inner surface defined by an internal elongate passage extending therethrough. The internal opening facilitates crimping of the inventive filament after it has been spiraled into a plurality of closely spaced perforations aligned along an edge of a stack of sheets. The internal opening in the filament also provides improved control over the outer dimension of the filament during manufacture.

  • Patent number: 5446681
Abstract: A method of operating a spectrometer to determine property and/or composition data of a sample comprises an on-line spectral measurement of the sample using a computer controlled spectrometer, statistical analysis of the sample data based upon a statistical model using sample calibration data, and automatically identifying a sample if necessary based upon statistical and expert system (rule-based) criteria. Sample collection based upon statistical criteria consists of performing a statistical or rule-based check against the model to identify measurement data which are indicative of chemical species not in the samples already stored in the model. Samples identified either by a statistical criteria or using an expert system (rule-based decisions) are used preferably to isolate the liquid sample using a computer controlled automatic sampling system. The samples can be saved for subsequent laboratory analysis in removable sample containers.

  • Patent number: 5121337
Abstract: For correcting measured spectral data of n samples for data due to the measurement process itself, e.g. due to spectral baseline variations and/or water vapor and carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere of the spectrometer used to make the spectral measurements, the spectral being quantified at f discrete frequencies to produce a matrix X (of dimension f by n) of calibration data, matrix X is orthogonalized with respect to a correction matrix U.sub.m of dimension f by m comprising m quantified correction spectra, at the discrete frequencies f, which simulate data arising from the measurement process itself. The correction method is preferably included in a method of estimating unknown property and/or composition data of a sample under consideration, in which the n samples are calibration samples and a predictive model is developed interrelating known property and composition data of the calibration samples to their spectral data corrected for the data due to the measurement process itself.
