Patent number: 8315711Abstract: A method and apparatus use resonant pulses to treat diabetes, carpal tunnel syndrome, arthritis and other maladies by applying a stimulating signal to promote and manipulate blood flow. The stimulating signal may include a resonant sequence that includes at least three pulses, where the pulses of the resonant sequence are spaced relative to one another such that each pulse subsequent to a first pulse in the sequence is effective to progressively stimulate and create tension in a musculature that includes the muscle inwardly from the electrodes and towards the center of the musculature while maintaining the tension created in at least a portion of the musculature by each preceding pulse in the resonant sequence.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2009Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Inventors: James M. Campos, Bruce D. Rowe

Patent number: 7593775Abstract: A method and apparatus include a therapeutic or developmental instrument that includes hardware and/or software for stimulating a muscle. Such an instrument may comprise, for instance, a golf club, a baseball bat, a lacrosse stick, a tennis racquet or a hockey stick, among other sports-related instruments. Still other suitable instruments may include a writing instrument, such as a pen. In the case of a golf club, a muscle of a user may be stimulated by the instrument as the golfer practices her swing. Combining such muscle stimulation with the act of practicing the movement of the swing has a synergistic effect of training the muscle as it builds strength. Similarly, a partial paralytic may regain strength in their hand by holding and writing with a pen configured to transcutaneously deliver a stimulating signal. Where desired, the instrument may include at least one electrode configured to deliver a stimulating signal to the holder of the instrument.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2004Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Assignee: Therapeutic InnovationsInventors: James M. Campos, Bruce D Rowe

Patent number: 7254447Abstract: A method and apparatus include a therapeutic or developmental apparel that includes hardware and/or software for stimulating a muscle. Such apparel may comprise, for instance, of: a glove, a uniform, a shoe, a sock, a vest, a sleeve, a shirt, a hat, a helmet, a brace, a suspender, eye wear, a pad, jewelry, a watch and pants. A muscle of a user may be stimulated by the garment as the user moves, such as a when a golfer practices her swing. Combining such muscle stimulation with the act of practicing the movement of the swing has a synergistic effect of training the muscle as it builds strength. Similarly, a partial paralytic may regain strength in their hand by wearing a vest or other garment configured to transcutaneously deliver a stimulating signal. Where desired, the garment may include at least one electrode configured to deliver a stimulating signal to the wearer. In another or the same embodiment, wired electrodes may extend from the garment or an adjacent signal generator to the wearer.Type: GrantFiled: March 17, 2004Date of Patent: August 7, 2007Assignee: Therapeutic Innovations, Inc.Inventors: James M. Campos, Bruce D. Rowe

Patent number: 7035691Abstract: A method and apparatus generate resonant sequences having pulses optimally spaced and configured to realize uniform contractions in a musculature. Namely, each subsequent pulse maintains tension within sarcomeres of the musculature as the resonant sequence propagates inwardly to progressively stimulate the entirety of the musculature. Variation in the width, spacing, polarity and/or amplitude of the pulses comprising the resonant sequence further overcomes accommodation and nutritional depletion while minimizing discomfort.Type: GrantFiled: January 15, 2002Date of Patent: April 25, 2006Assignee: Therapeutic Innovations, Inc.Inventor: James M. Campos

Patent number: 5097833Abstract: A transcutaneous muscle/nerve stimulator having a signal generator which produces a train of sine pulses about a zero volt reference line in which the pulses have an alternating order of polarity on a predetermined basis. The amplitude of and width of the positive and negative excursion portions of the pulses, respectively, may be controlled independently for each sine pulse; in addition, the respective positive and negative excursions may be separated by a time delay of selected duration. These features may also be modulated so that they change at a predetermined rate. The signal generator includes a pulse modulation feature which produces an exchange or shifting of selected pulses in the pulse train to produce groupings of two, three, or two plus one pulses or other groupings.Type: GrantFiled: September 19, 1989Date of Patent: March 24, 1992Inventor: James M.
