  • Patent number: 4402983
Abstract: A thermosetting acrylic powder coating composition contains an acrylic copolymer of a methacrylic acid and at least one other monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, a crosslinking agent capable of reacting with carboxylic acid groups, a blend of an ultraviolet light stabilizer and an ultraviolet screener capable of preventing degradation of the coating by ultraviolet light and a flow control agent. Preferably, the composition is nonpigmented and provides a clear, glossy, and durable film useful as the clear coat of a clear coat/color coat automobile finish.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: July 22, 1982
Date of Patent: September 6, 1983
Assignee: E. I. Du Pont de Nemours & Co.

  • Patent number: 4346144
Abstract: A thermosetting acrylic powder coating composition contains an acrylic copolymer of a monoethylenically unsaturated monomer having at least one epoxy group and at least one monoethylenically unsaturated monomer which is free of epoxy groups, a carboxy-terminated primary crosslinking agent, a supplementary crosslinking agent having at least one functional group which can react with either hydroxyl groups or carboxylic acid groups, and at least one ultraviolet light stabilizer or ultraviolet light screener capable of preventing degradation of the coating by ultraviolet light. An acrylic copolymer of methyl methacrylate, n-butyl methacrylate, and glycidyl methacrylate is favored. Preferably, the composition contains a combination of ultraviolet light stabilizer and ultraviolet light screener, is nonpigmented, and provides a clear, glossy, and durable film useful as the clear coat of a clear coat/color coat automobile finish.

  • Patent number: 4118436
Abstract: An improved adhesive composition of a chlorosulfonated polyethylene, at least one acrylic monomer, such as methyl methacrylate, butyl methacrylate and the like, an amine aldehyde condensation product and optionally a peroxy catalyst in which the improvement comprises the use of a silane of the formula ##STR1## where R.sup.1, --R.sup.2, --R.sup.3 and --R.sup.4 are --H or an alkyl group having 1-5 carbon atoms, --X is --O--R, --R or --OH where --R is an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms, and Y and Z are --H or a monovalent hydrocarbon-containing radical having 1-20 carbon atoms. The improved adhesive is useful for bonding a wide variety of materials and sets rapidly to form durable bonds that withstand exposure to weathering and high humidity conditions.
