  • Patent number: 6226771
Abstract: An error detection generator calculates error detection data for insertion into encapsulated frames. The error detection generator is configured to calculate multiple error detection values and insert them into corresponding fields of the encapsulated frames. The error detection generator includes a controller, three cyclic redundancy check (CRC) engines and at least one multiplexer. Each CRC engine is selectively enabled by the controller to calculate a frame check sequence (FCS) value on a different portion of the frame. Downstream CRC engines also receive the outputs from the upstream CRC engines so that these earlier FCS values may be used during subsequent calculations. The outputs of the CRC engines are also inserted into the appropriate fields of the encapsulated frames by the multiplexer.

  • Patent number: 5849101
Abstract: A method of washing objects in a dishwasher having upper and lower spray arms within a wash chamber and a sump filter. Wash liquid entering a sump from the wash chamber to be recirculated by a pump is filtered the filter to prevent soils from entering the sump and being recirculated. When the lower spray arm is operating, wash liquid is directly sprayed onto the filter from a clean-out nozzle on the lower spray arm to clean soils off the filter and prevent the filter from clogging. During a pre-wash cycle and at least one pre-rinse cycle, wash liquid is continuously sprayed from only the lower spray arm to prevent the filter from clogging when heavy soils are removed. During a wash cycle and at least one rinse cycle, wash liquid is alternately sprayed from the lower spray arm and the upper spray arm when the heavy soils have already been removed and it is less likely the filter will become clogged.

  • Patent number: 5762080
Abstract: A washer for washing objects with liquid. The washer includes a wash chamber adapted for holding objects to be washed. The sump has a pump chamber and a collection chamber, both of which are adapted to hold liquid from the wash chamber. A recirculation pump is operable to move liquid from the pump chamber to the wash chamber. A drain pump is operable to move liquid from the pump chamber and the collection chamber to a drain. A rotatable blade is disposed in the collection chamber and is adapted to mince particles therein. A controller is provided for controlling the operation of the recirculation pump and the drain pump. The controller is operable to turn the drain pump on and off during a wash phase in order to move particles from the collection chamber to the drain. The controller is also operable to turn the drain pump on at the end of the wash phase in order to initiate a drain phase wherein the drain pump drains the sump of liquid.

  • Patent number: 5752533
Abstract: A dishwasher includes a tub, lower and upper racks removably mounted within the tub, a first-level spray arm mounted in the tub above below the lower rack, a second-level spray arm mounted in the tub between the lower and upper racks and having an upwardly extending funnel, and a nozzle assembly mounted at the top of the tub above the upper rack. The nozzle assembly includes a downwardly directed spray nozzle axially aligned with the funnel, a third-level spray arm which encircles and rotates about the nozzle, and a retainer which is secured to the nozzle below the third-level spray arm and supports the third-level spray arm. The nozzle has a main body forming a central passage and a mounting flange integral with an upper end of the main body and forming transfer openings about the central passage.

  • Patent number: 5700329
Abstract: Disclosed is a filter standpipe for a dishwasher filter and sump unit that prevents loss of circulation pump prime due to filter blockage. The filter standpipe preferably comprises a weir tube that projects upwards from the upper surface of the filter to provide a bypass for wash water trapped on the upper surface of a blocked filter.

  • Patent number: 5630437
Abstract: A dishwasher is provided with a flapper valve for directing water from a recirculation pump to spray arms or a drain. The valve is spring biased toward a recirculate position and solenoid operated to a drain position. An inlet of the pump is provided with a downwardly curved suction pipe having a generally horizontal bell mouth. The dishwasher has a sump separated into a pump chamber and a collection chamber. The pump inlet is located in the pump chamber and has a mouth that is located below a level of the bottom of the collection chamber. Wash liquid is pumped through a venturi in the collection chamber to a drain.

  • Patent number: 5628334
Abstract: A dishwasher sump is divided into a collection chamber and a pump chamber by a filter. Food particles collect in the collection chamber while filtered wash liquid collects in the pump chamber. A pump has an inlet located in the pump chamber. The filtered wash liquid is recycled and sprayed on objects in the dishwasher by the pump. The impeller is driven by a shaft extending through the collection chamber and a wall separates the pump chamber from the collection chamber. Food particles in the collection chamber are minced by a rotating blade on the pump shaft. Balancing vanes on a rear face of the impeller prevent food particles and dirty water from flowing into the filtered liquid from the collection chamber. At the end of a wash cycle, the minced food particles are pumped to a drain with the wash liquid.

  • Patent number: 5579790
Abstract: A filter screen assembly is provided which includes a housing, a filter screen, and two valve or check balls. The housing has two interior walls, each having openings therein which divide an interior space of the housing into top, center, and bottom chambers. A first inlet and a first outlet open into the top chamber and a second inlet and a second outlet open into the bottom chamber. The filter screen is horizontally disposed within the center chamber. One check ball is located in the top chamber and is biased to close the first inlet by a bottom inclined surface of the top chamber. The check ball is forced to substantially close the first outlet when fluid flows in the first inlet. The other check ball is located in the bottom chamber and is biased to close the second inlet by a bottom inclined surface of the bottom chamber. The check ball is forced to substantially close the second outlet when fluid flows in the second inlet.

  • Patent number: 5560381
Abstract: The present invention provides a wash arm assembly for a dishwasher which includes a molded plastic wash arm and a stainless steel cover. The plastic wash arm has a top surface, lateral surfaces, and a bottom surface and the stainless steel cover wraps over the top surface of the plastic wash arm, around the lateral surfaces of the plastic wash arm, and over a portion of the bottom surface of the plastic spray arm to hold the cover on the spray arm. The top surface of the plastic wash arm defines a series of wash jets and the stainless steel cover defines openings aligned with the wash jets so that the metal cover does not interfere with the wash jets.

  • Patent number: 5365969
Abstract: An improved float to prevent over-filling of a dishwashing machine including a cylindrical main float body, a skirt attached to the main float body and extending outwardly and downwardly therefrom, and a float stem. The main float body includes a lower portion which extends downwardly beyond a lower terminal portion of the skirt, and serves as a suds stop to prevent suds created during operation of the dishwasher from rising up within the hollow interior of the main float body and flowing down a stand pipe upon which the float is mounted. The lower portion of the main float body includes a slotted opening which serves as a vacuum breaker to prevent a vacuum from being created within the main float body which would cause the float to adhere to bottom wall of the dishwasher tub.

  • Patent number: 4334259
Abstract: An electronic cabinet having a conductive frame and a conductive removable access panel or door is grounded by a ground button. The ground button comprises a donut-shaped core of resilient material supported by a mounting plate. A layer of knitted-metal wire mesh at least partially surrounds the exterior of the core and the mounting plate. The button is constructed to be mounted to one surface of the cabinet with the layer of knitted-metal wire mesh in contact therewith. When the access panel or door is closed, the button is deformed between the frame and access panel or door to provide a positive conductive leak path therebetween.
