  • Patent number: 4256269
Abstract: A carpet web is delivered on a conveyor to a pair of parallel bed rolls which turn in unison in a common direction and initially are in close side-by-side relationship. A single upper roll parallel to the two bed rolls and midway between them rotates slightly faster than the bed rolls and turns in the same direction as the bed rolls. The upper roll is biased downwardly by a yielding controlled pressure. A rear side swingable roll at an elevation between the bed rolls and upper roll contacts the rear side of the carpet roll being formed by the apparatus to maintain tension thereon and to resist rearward displacement of the carpet roll during its formation. As the carpet roll gains size, the forward bed roll begins to gradually move forwardly in relation to the rear bed roll and upper roll while the upper roll maintains its position to form a broad stance cradle for the growing carpet roll.

  • Patent number: 4240657
Abstract: A unitized convenient and durable log lifter includes coaxial tube and rod members with the tube slotted longitudinally from one end to receive and guide a projecting jaw carried by the rod member which is freely movable axially of the tube throughout the length of the slot while being constrained against rotation. Coacting jaws are carried by a crosshead on the end of the tube having the slot and parallel transverse handles on the tube and rod provide easy manipulation of the device.

  • Patent number: 4002308
Abstract: A simplified and versatile carpet roll-up mechanism allows customer carpet orders to be rolled pile in or pile out after cutting to proper length in a combination machine for unrolling carpet from a supply roll, measuring and cutting transversely of the web. The improved roll-up mechanism allows four cooperating rolls to manipulate the carpet web without employing coacting mechanical bars or fingers customarily required to initiate the rolling operation. Following completion of the roll, the roll is cleanly ejected from the roll-up mechanism. The mechanism is under control of a uniquely arranged system of power cylinders.

  • Patent number: 3943864
Abstract: A carriage-mounted sewing machine with special stitch forming means and an advance power trimmer are driven as a unit along the rails of a railway sewing machine bed by operation of the sewing machine motor and a unique clutch arrangement coupled with the carriage train drive for the railway bed. The stitching mechanism features an improved looper arrangement whereby precisely the necessary degree of slack is produced in the butt seam stitches to enable the spliced carpet sections to "butt out" perfectly without a gap and without overlapping at the butt seam or buckling. A specialized presser foot and throat plate arrangement allows the butt seaming of carpet sections up to two inches in total thickness. Carpet scrap is reduced to a minimum.
