Abstract: The invention relates to 1-(aminoalkylphenyl and aminoalkylbenzyl)indoles and indolines of the formula: ##STR1## where R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are the same or different and are hydrogen, lower alkyl, cycloalkyl and acyl of the formula ##STR2## where R.sub.3 is lower alkyl, lower alkoxy, cycloalkyl, phenyl of the formula ##STR3## and Ar lower alkyl of the formula -lower alkylene ##STR4## X is hydrogen, halogen, lower alkoxy, Ar lower alkoxy of the formula ##STR5## lower alkylene --O--; m and p are independently integers of 0 and 1 and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof.

Abstract: There are described spiro[indolo[1,7-ab][1,5]benzodiazepine-2,4'-piperidines]of the formula ##STR1## wherein p is 1 or 0, R.sub.1 is hydrogen or methyl and R is hydrogen or --CO(CH.sub.2).sub.n NR.sub.2 R.sub.3, R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 being each hydrogen or methyl but at least one of the two being methyl, and n being 1 or 2, which are useful as analgesic agents; intermediate compounds therefor; and methods for synthesizing the foregoing compounds.

Abstract: What is disclosed are 1,2,6,7-tetrahydroindolo[1,7-ab] [1,5]benzodiazepines of the formula ##STR1## wherein R is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or cycloalkyl; ##STR2## n is an integer from 1 to 3; R.sub.1 is hydrogen, loweralkyl, or phenylloweralkyl;R.sub.2 is hydrogen or loweralkyl;or R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 may be taken together with the nitrogen to which they are attached to form pyrrolidinyl, piperidino, morpholino, or phenylpiperazinyl; andR.sub.3 is loweralkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof.These compounds are useful as antidepressants and as analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents.

Abstract: What is disclosed are ##STR1## wherein X is hydrogen, halogen or trifluoromethyl;Y is hydrogen, halogen or trifluoromethyl;R is hydrogen, loweralkyl, cycloalkyl, phenyl, halophenyl, furyl, pyridinyl, 4-methylpiperazin-1-ylethyl or phenylloweralkyl;R.sup.1 is hydrogen;n and m are independently 0 or 1, but n is not 0 when m is 1, and the bonds between ring positions 1 and 2 and between positions 6 and 7 are respectively saturated when n and m are 1 and are unsaturated when n and m are 0;pharmaceutically acceptable acid addition salts thereof; methods of preparing said compounds; pharmaceutical compositions including said compounds; methods of treatment using the compounds; and intermediates therefor.These compounds are useful as analgesic and anti-inflammatory agents, as well as intermediates for the preparation of other pharmaceutically active compounds.
