Patent number: 5331554Abstract: A method and apparatus utilizing automated semantic pattern recognition whereby a user of a manual enters a query regarding information in the text of the manual and the invention displays the locations in which information responsive to the query is located. The present invention includes a computer that stores a data structure representing the natural language text of a manual, the structure being a tree structure having nodes, wherein each node represents information from associated locations of the text. The nodes at higher levels of the tree represent general categories of information. Nodes at succeedingly lower levels of the tree represent succeedingly more specific categorical subsets of the general categories of information represented at the higher levels by ancestors of the lower level nodes. The query is formatted into a query data structure that is similar in format to the node structure representing the text. The query data structure is compared to each node in the tree.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1992Date of Patent: July 19, 1994Assignees: Ricoh Corporation, Ricoh Company, Ltd.Inventor: James M. Patent number: 4893442Abstract: Stair apparatus and method of manufacture, wherein the stair apparatus has concrete tread pads and landings which are poured and set during manufacture so that pouring and setting of the concrete does not have to be done in the field, thereby saving much labor and time. The method includes a unique step of clamping the step elements between the stringer elements so that the step elements are firmly held in proper position during welding thereof to the stringer elements. The landings are supported in a novel manner in a stairwell, and the stair assemblies are supported between the landings.Type: GrantFiled: December 28, 1988Date of Patent: January 16, 1990Assignee: Duraflite, Inc.Inventors: James M. Graham, Edward F. Schaack

Patent number: 4712092Abstract: A keyboard switch includes a plurality of spaced piezoelectric transducers secured to a common strike plate which is selectively impacted to actuate all of the transducers in response to switch actuation. The switch includes a snap action spring member carrying an impact member which impacts the strike plate as the spring member snaps to its actuated state when the switch is depressed . The spring member causes the impact member to maintain a compressive force against the strike plate, maintaining the transducers actuated while the key remains depressed and for a short interval after the key is released. An array of such switches on a keyboard is disposed over a plurality of parallel data lines which electrically contact one or more transducers at each switch in accordance with a switch indentification code. The parallel binary number appearing on the lines is received by processing circuitry which identifies each depressed key by its code.Type: GrantFiled: December 20, 1983Date of Patent: December 8, 1987Assignees: Aaron J. Patent number: 4269690Abstract: An improved apparatus is disclosed for reclaiming dissolved metal from a liquid, in which a pail or similar container (10) is provided with at least one pair of nested, concentric cylindrical metal cathodes (16, 34) with an anode rod (40) located concentric with the central cathode (34) and a plurality of anode rods (38) located in the annulus between the cathodes (16, 34). Liquid containing metal to be reclaimed is introduced by gravity feed at a location (20) near the bottom of the container (10) so that when a voltage is applied between the cathodes (16, 34) and anodes (38, 40), the dissolved metal plates out on the cathodes (16, 34) and essentially metal-free liquid may be drawn off at a location (22) near the upper portion of the container.Type: GrantFiled: January 28, 1980Date of Patent: May 26, 1981Assignee: Nancy Swartz HammondInventor: James M.
