  • Patent number: 11371447
Abstract: Methods and systems are disclosed for operating an engine that includes a knock control system that may determine contributions of individual noise sources to an engine background noise level. The contributions of the individual noise sources may be the basis for establishing the presence or absence of knock in one or more engine cylinders.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: August 26, 2020
Date of Patent: June 28, 2022
    Assignee: Ford Global Technologies, LLC
Inventors: Rani Kiwan, Christopher P. Glugla, Mohannad Hakeem, James M. Kindree

  • Patent number: 5303168
Abstract: A method of operating an internal combustion engine wherein a predicted engine exhaust temperature is used as an input to a microprocessor controlling the engine. Exhaust temperature can be controlled by adjusting engine operation. Exhaust gas recirculation mass flow can be more accurately determined using the predicted engine exhaust temperature.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 31, 1991
Date of Patent: April 12, 1994
    Assignee: Ford Motor Company
Inventors: Michael J. Cullen, James M. Kindree, Richard L. Wanat
  • Patent number: 5241855
Abstract: A method of inferring and predicting engine torque uses a function of a speed/load table, air/fuel ratio and spark advance. The effects of the magnitudes of engine spark retard, rich or lean air/fuel ratios and exhaust gas recirculation are accounted for using a series of multipliers. Friction torque is accounted for through a speed/air charge table look-up.
