  • Patent number: 5893234
Abstract: A time delay release mechanism has a brake actuator including an actuation member movable between engaged and released positions. The actuation member, when in the engaged position, operatively engages a fire barrier for preventing closure thereof. The actuation member, when in the released position, is operatively disengaged from the fire barrier such that the release mechanism does not prevent closure thereof. A timer includes a magnet which is powered by voltage applied to a capacitor. The magnet is, in turn, connected to the actuator member. When power is interrupted, the capacitor disengages for a predetermined time period. At the conclusion of the time period the magnet releases the actuator which, in turn, releases the brake and causes the fire barrier to close.

  • Patent number: 5743320
Abstract: A brake actuator for use in conjunction with a door barrier for preventing closure of the door barrier when the actuator comes in contact with an obstruction. The brake actuator includes a bumper mounted on a leading edge of the barrier and movable between an operative position and an inoperative position. A load carrying linkage is provided which is activated when the bumper is moved to the operative position. The linkage is connected to a brake which becomes engaged when the linkage is activated, thus preventing movement of the door barrier to a closed position when the bumper contacts the obstruction.

  • Patent number: 5673514
Abstract: A time delay release mechanism has a brake actuator including an actuation member movable between engaged and released positions. The actuation member, when in the engaged position, operatively engages a fire barrier for preventing closure thereof. The actuation member, when in the released position, is operatively disengaged from the fire barrier such that the release mechanism does not prevent closure thereof. The brake actuator includes an actuation driver which, when receiving electrical power, moves the actuation member to the released position. A timer, when receiving electrical power or when power thereto is interrupted for a duration less than a predetermined time period, disengages from the actuation member allowing the actuation driver, when power thereto is initially interrupted, to move the actuation member to the engaged position.

  • Patent number: 5605185
Abstract: A fire door system comprising first and second fire door assemblies each assembly including a fire door, a temperature sensing device and an operator. The operators of each of the assemblies are electrically interconnected such that when the fire doors simultaneously close when either (a) the temperature sensing device senses that the ambient temperature exceeds a predetermined value or (b) the circuit between the operators of the assemblies is deactivated.

  • Patent number: 5577541
Abstract: A rolling door assembly for selectively covering an opening in a building includes a shutter roller rotatable about a substantially horizontal axis and a flexible panel windable on and off the roller for movement into retracted and extended conditions, respectively. The flexible panel defines an upper portion having a first width and a lower portion having a second width less than the first width. At least one pass door frame is hingedly securable proximate a lateral side of the opening for movement between a first position, in which the pass door frame extends in a substantially transverse direction relative to the opening and a second position, in which the pass door frame is substantially aligned with the at least one sidewall, the pass door frame defining a passage therethrough and a substantially vertical channel for guiding an edge region of the flexible panel lower portion as it is extended.

  • Patent number: 5245879
Abstract: A resettable fail-safe fire door release mechanism which allows normal powered operation of a fire door is disclosed. A solenoid having a first open state in the absence of an applied electric current and a second closed state in the presence of an applied electric current is incorporated into the motor-operator unit of an overhead door. Brake actuator utilizes the spring force of a normally disengaged brake to keep the brake actuator in a first position. The plunger of the solenoid acts through the brake actuator in opposition to the spring so that energizing the solenoid overcomes the force of the spring, moving the brake actuator, and engaging the brake; deenergizing the solenoid causes the spring to again disengage the brake. A normally closed switch having a mechanical actuator is wired in series with the solenoid. The melting of a fusible link releases a spring loaded plunger which depresses the actuator opening the switch.
