Abstract: A fixture locator enables a worker to find, mark, and cut the exact location and dimensions of an electrical or other fixture installed behind a previously installed panel of a partially paneled wall or ceiling structure. The fixture locator is essentially a bifurcated elongate structure, with essentially identical front and back arms in precise registry with one another. The separated ends of the arms are configured to fit closely about an electrical outlet box, switch box, light box, or junction box, but may be configured to fit virtually any component. The opposite ends of the arms are secured together, preferably with a spacer therebetween which is at least as thick as the thickest panels with which the present fixture locator will be used, in order to provide adequate clearance between the two arms of the device.
