Patent number: 9797987Abstract: A frequency correction for frequency difference of arrival geolocation of transmitted target signals may be provided. A frequency of a target signal may be determined at a first collector based upon a first reference timebase source. A frequency of the target signal may be determined at a second collector based upon a second reference timebase source. An observed frequency of a reference carrier signal based upon the first reference timebase source may be determined at the second collector based upon the second reference timebase source. A relative timebase error between the first collector and the second collector may be calculated based upon a difference between the intended frequency of the reference carrier signal and the observed frequency of the reference carrier signal. A corrected frequency difference for the target signal may be calculated based upon the relative timebase error and a proportional scaling factor.Type: GrantFiled: October 15, 2013Date of Patent: October 24, 2017Assignee: Zeta Associates, Inc.Inventors: John M. Patent number: 6127785Abstract: A power supply and control circuit is provided for driving a fluorescent lamp from a low voltage DC power source such as a battery. A DC-to-AC inverter coupled to a switching regulator converts low DC voltage into a higher AC voltage for driving the fluorescent lamp. In one embodiment, the lamp is included in a feedback loop which includes a circuit for producing a feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of current conducted by the lamp. In another embodiment, the lamp is symmetrically driven by isolating the lamp from the driving circuitry and indirectly deriving the feedback signal. The feedback signal is applied to the switching regulator to produce in the lamp a regulated current and, hence, a regulated lamp intensity. The magnitude of the lamp current can be adjusted to enable the intensity of the fluorescent lamp to be smoothly and continuously varied (without "dead-spots" or "pop-on") over a chosen intensity range, including if desired, from substantially full OFF to full ON.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1996Date of Patent: October 3, 2000Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: James M. Patent number: 6087787Abstract: A power-supply and control circuit is provided for driving a fluorescent lamp from a low-voltage direct current (DC) power source such as a battery. The circuit includes a converter that converts low-voltage DC to high voltage alternating current (AC). The converter includes a feedback ceramic step-up transformer that amplifies the AC signal to a level sufficient to illuminate the lamp, and also provides a feedback signal that can be used to monitor the resonance frequency of the transformer. The power supply and control circuit also includes a first feedback loop that regulates the lamp current amplitude and a second feedback loop that forces the converter to operate at the transformer's resonant frequency.Type: GrantFiled: November 23, 1998Date of Patent: July 11, 2000Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: James M. Patent number: 5767630Abstract: Power supply and control circuits are provided for driving a fluorescent lamp with a differential drive voltage from a low voltage DC power source. In one embodiment, the lamp is driven by a transformer having a primary and two independent secondary windings which produce the differential drive signal. A feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of current conducted by the lamp is produced from one of the secondary windings that is coupled to the control circuit so that the feedback signal is directly proportional to the energy required to light the lamp. In another embodiment, the lamp is driven by two independent transformers that are both driven by the control and drive circuit. The two secondary windings are each connected to one end of the lamp so that the lamp is driven by a differential drive signal. One of the secondary windings is also coupled to the control and drive circuit to provide a feedback signal indicative of the magnitude of current conducted by the lamp.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1996Date of Patent: June 16, 1998Assignee: Linear Technology CorporationInventor: James M. Patent number: 5722277Abstract: A key ring opener for spreading apart the adjacent end and intermediate portions of a split key ring that are spring-urged against each but are spreadable to allow a key to be placed on or taken off the ring. The opener includes an annular band having sharp circumferential wedging edges and is adapted to encircle such a key ring in the same way as a key, and along with keys on the ring, and a wedging bar extending diametrically of the band and having sharp wedging edges. The opener is slipped on and off the key ring like a key but is easier to do because of the sharp circumferential edges. While on the key ring, the bar can be wedged, again because of its sharp edges, between adjacent segments of the ring, ahead of a key, thereby to spread the segments apart. Thereafter, the band is rolled between the thumb and forefinger causing the bar to leverage the segments of the key ring farther apart thereby to facilitate entry and removal of a key to and from the ring.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1997Date of Patent: March 3, 1998Inventor: James M. Patent number: 5623422Abstract: Carriers (51) in a communication system (10) are prioritized (70) according to their usability. The carriers (51) that are below a usability threshold are placed on an ingress list (122). Those that exceed the threshold are placed on a preferred list (121). The carriers (51) on the preferred list (121) are then ranked (76) according to their word error rates (WER) and signal quality (SQ). The carriers (51) on the ingress list (122) have their usability re-checked periodically and may be transferred to the preferred list (121) if their usability does not again drop below threshold during a pre-set time period.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1994Date of Patent: April 22, 1997Assignee: Motorola, Inc.Inventor: James M. Patent number: 5564195Abstract: A chair measurement device includes a base configured to stably engage a chair seat in a manner simulating a person sitting on the chair, and further includes an upright member pivotally mounted on the base for simulating the person leaning against the chair back. The upright member includes an upper section having an arcuately shaped rear surface, and an elastic member is extended between the upper section and the base for engaging the chair back to facilitate positioning the device on a chair. The upright member is lockable on the base to facilitate initial positioning of the measurement device on the chair, but is releasable and movable against the chair back to facilitate taking measurements. The base and the upright member include planar surfaces for supporting measurement taking tools, and further include slots for locating the tools in square and predetermined positions on the measurement device.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 1994Date of Patent: October 15, 1996Assignee: The Business and Institutional Furniture Manufacturers AssociationInventors: Douglas D.
