  • Patent number: 6484861
Abstract: An electromagnetically actuated wrap spring clutch is provided. The inventive clutch includes a shaft hub disposed about a longitudinal axis and an input hub that is coaxial with the shaft hub. The input hub includes a first portion having a first diameter and a second portion having a second diameter wherein the second diameter is smaller than the first diameter and the second portion is nearer the shaft hub than the first portion. The clutch also includes a spring connected to the input hub and disposed radially outwardly of a portion of the shaft hub and the first and second portions of the input hub. The spring may be symmetrical, having a uniform diameter and including first and second tangs disposed at either end of the spring wherein both tangs extend radially outwardly. The clutch further includes a control collar connected to the spring and a coil disposed about shaft hub. The use of the multiple diameter input hub and symmetrical spring reduce assembly time, cost, and clutch engagement time.

  • Patent number: 6080075
Abstract: An actuator for a speed control device is provided. The actuator includes a motor, first and second planetary gear assemblies, and an output shaft. The motor drives a shaft on which a first pinion is mounted. The first pinion, in combination with an internal gear, causes a first planetary gear to rotate which in turn causes rotation in a first carrier supporting the first planetary gear. Rotation of the first carrier causes a second pinion disposed on an opposite side of the first carrier to rotate. The second pinion, in combination with the above-mentioned internal gear, causes a second planetary gear to rotate which in turn causes rotation in a second carrier supporting the second planetary gear. Rotation of the second carrier is transmitted to the output shaft directly or through an intermediate clutch.

  • Patent number: 4209213
Abstract: A brush holder and slip ring assembly in which the housing of the brush holder and the rotor body of the slip ring assembly are both made of plastic. Conductive terminal strips have portions encapsulated by the plastic of the housing of the brush holder and are adapted to make contact with axially spaced brushes. Conductive terminal strips and slip rings are partially encapsulated by the plastic of the rotor of the slip ring assembly, the slip rings being disposed in contact with the brushes.
