  • Patent number: 7341128
Abstract: A brake rigging for a railway vehicle having a singular truck-mounted brake apparatus for generating a braking force and a plurality of disk caliper assemblies for applying the braking force to each wheel. Wedge-like elements are rigidly attached to the braking beams of the truck-mounted brake apparatus and engage a pair of rollers that are pivotably mounted on corresponding ends of a pair of pivoted levers disposed within a disk caliper assembly. The wedge-like elements transmit a generated braking force to the levers, the rocking of which in opposite directions is effective to force the brake shoes against the respective opposite sides of a disc brake rotor to exert the braking force thereon.

  • Patent number: 6971488
Abstract: A brake rigging comprising first and second brake beams. A brake shoe assembly including a brake shoe adjacent each end of brake beams. A first force transfer mechanism connected intermediate first and second ends thereof to the first brake beam for moving a brake shoe into engagement with confronting wheels during braking. A second force transfer mechanism connected intermediate first and second ends thereof for moving brake shoes into engagement with confronting wheels during braking. A first force transmitting device engageable with such second brake beam for rotating such second force transfer mechanism. An adjustable length second force transmitting device having one end connected to the first force transfer mechanism and another end connected to the second force transfer mechanism and an apparatus engageable with such second force transmitting device and a portion of such brake rigging for changing a length of the second force transmitting device.

  • Patent number: 6378668
Abstract: A spring applied parking brake assembly for a railroad vehicle braking system is provided for an automatic application of the parking brake in the absence of an air source. The spring applied parking brake assembly comprises a cylindrical casing containing a piston assembly. The piston assembly is mounted for longitudinal movement within the casing upon the application and/or removal of pneumatic pressure to the piston assembly. The piston assembly is associated with a force transfer lever of the braking system so as to apply a force to this force transfer lever upon longitudinal movement of the piston assembly. At least one spring member is provided within the cylindrical casing.

  • Patent number: 6027180
Abstract: A manual shifting apparatus for an automatic empty/load brake device used in conjunction with a pneumatic braking system provided on a transport vehicle having a truck and a car body mounted thereon through a resilient suspension system. The automatic empty/load brake device has a sensor arm which moves through a range of positions upon the application of a braking force to the transport vehicle by the pneumatic braking system. The range of positions includes a first range of positions indicating the transport vehicle as being in a loaded condition and a second range of positions indicating the transport vehicle as being in an unloaded condition. The automatic empty/load brake device applies a substantially reduced pneumatic braking force to the transport vehicle whenever the sensor arm is in the second range of positions.
