Patent number: 12319387Abstract: In order to prevent relative movement between two shipping containers located in two adjacent columns of a stack of containers on a cargo ship and separated by a gap, a compression guide is placed at least partially in the gap. The compression guide includes a spacer, one or more attachment mechanisms suitable for partial insertion into a hole in a casting of a container or flat rack, and an interface. The spacer or the interface are preferably shaped to provide two adjacent contact surfaces angled at a lead-in angle so that one of the two adjacent contact surfaces can be used to adjust placement of the compression guide or one of the two shipping containers. Optionally, the width of the spacer can be adjusted, either remotely or manually.Type: GrantFiled: February 17, 2023Date of Patent: June 3, 2025Assignee: Trendsetter Vulcan Offshore, Inc.Inventors: James Maher, David Sverre, Ricky Brown

Patent number: 12135008Abstract: An off-shore wind turbine system is assembled using a platform or jack-up vessel, and a first base anchored to the seafloor at a blade assembly off-shore location. A buoyant tower is attached to the first base. A crane provided on the platform or jack-up vessel is used to lift blades and blades, which are then coupled to a turbine held in a nacelle provided at the top of the buoyant tower. The buoyant tower, the nacelle, and the blades are detached from the first base. The buoyant tower, the nacelle, and the blades are towed to a wind farm and connected to a second base provided in the wind farm. The buoyant tower, the nacelle, and the blades are further stabilized using mooring lines spanning between the buoyant towers and other bases provided in the wind farm. The first base and/or the second base include anti-rotation features.Type: GrantFiled: July 22, 2022Date of Patent: November 5, 2024Assignee: Trendsetter Vulcan Offshore, Inc.Inventors: James Maher, Kim Mittendorf

Patent number: 11473387Abstract: A tensioning system includes a combined rope gripper and tension cylinder. A rope passes through the combined rope gripper and tension cylinder. Once the length and/or tension of the rope has been adjusted, a reel lock handle can be actuated to prevent further rotation of the reel. The combined rope gripper and tension cylinder can be actuated to hold the rope. The combined rope gripper and tension cylinder can also be actuated to reduce or prevent the release of tension in the rope.Type: GrantFiled: February 19, 2020Date of Patent: October 18, 2022Inventors: James Maher, Ricky Brown, Daniel McCelvey, Donald La Vigne

Patent number: 8322460Abstract: Systems and methods for lifting drilling fluid from a well bore in a subsea formation are disclosed. Some system embodiments include a drill string suspended within a drilling riser to form the well bore, and a drilling fluid source for supplying drilling fluid through the drill string during drilling. A diverter is coupled between the drilling riser and a return line, while a power riser coupled to the return line at an interface. A lift fluid source supplies lift fluid through the power riser into the return line. The lift fluid is intermittently injected from the power riser through the interface into the return line to form one or more slugs of lift fluid positioned between slugs of drilling fluid, such that the combined density of lift fluid and drilling fluid in the return line is less than the density of the drilling fluid alone.Type: GrantFiled: June 2, 2008Date of Patent: December 4, 2012Assignee: Horton Wison Deepwater, Inc.Inventors: Edward E. Horton, III, Lyle David Finn, James Maher, Greg Navarre

Publication number: 20110096368Abstract: An improved security system is disclosed for material printed on a substrate comprising a primary marking printed on the substrate for conveying information. A secondary marking provides security to the primary marking. The secondary marking may include a variation in optical properties, a variation in magnetic properties or a variation in both in optical properties and magnetic properties of the primary marking. A method is disclosed comprising printing a primary and a secondary marking on a substrate with the primary marking conveying information and with the secondary marking providing security to the primary marking.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 16, 2010Publication date: April 28, 2011Inventors: James Maher, James Walling, Timothy Armstrong, Sean Maher

Publication number: 20050268275Abstract: A method for sizing a computer system. Toolsets defining required performance of a subsystem, as well as hardware and software resources available to the subsystem, are transmitted to a subsystem provider. The subsystem provider responds with information about a subsystem that specifically comports with the toolset's definitions of performance and available resources. Whether two subsystem providers respond to a same toolset for a same subsystem or to different toolsets for different subsystems, the two subsystem providers are blocked from viewing the other subsystem provider's response. Further, each subsystem provider's response includes only information needed to comport with the toolset, thus preventing unnecessary disclosure of specifications of the subsystem beyond those defined in the toolset.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2004Publication date: December 1, 2005Applicant: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: James Maher, Howard Sykes

Patent number: 6959536Abstract: The present invention provides a widely variable and yet precisely controlled system for metering the flow of fuel to an engine component. The present invention utilizes a plurality of solenoid activated injector valves to meter fuel into an output plenum where the fuel is accumulated to avoid pressure pulses and pressurized if necessary for introduction to the combustion chamber of a gas turbine engine. This system is particularly well suited to high pressure engine systems such as helicopter jet or turbo shaft engines.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 2000Date of Patent: November 1, 2005Inventor: James Maher

Patent number: 4128299Abstract: Light propagating in a waveguide is modulated by deforming a cladding on at least one surface of the waveguide. The cladding has a thickness at least equal to the exponential depth of the evanescant field of the propagating light. A pair of electrode means is used to impress a field across the waveguide and cladding so that the cladding is deformed to a degree sufficient to interfere with the evanescant field and to modulate the propagating light.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1977Date of Patent: December 5, 1978Assignee: Xerox CorporationInventor: James Maher
