  • Publication number: 20060251058
Abstract: A system and method to provide cross-paging between circuit and packet data networks includes providing a mobile station being on a circuit-switched communication in a first area while maintaining a packet data session on the packet data network. When the mobile station moves to a second location area served by the circuit-switched network while the mobile station is still idle with respect to packet communications on the packet data network the location of the mobile station with respect to the circuit-switched network becomes unknown by the packet data network. In this case, the circuit-switched network informs the packet data network of a change in the mobile switching center serving the mobile station.

  • Publication number: 20060245368
Abstract: A system and method for verification of a communication path between a first and a second network by turning on and off a loop back mode. Firstly, verification begins by requesting verification of a communication path by the first network. The second network then acknowledges the verification request and places the communication path in a loop back mode. The first network sends a verification signal over the communication path, which is returned by the second network over the communication path. The second network then terminates the loop back mode. Timers can be included for the acknowledgment and termination steps to ensure the temporary nature of the loop back mode.

  • Publication number: 20060111115
Abstract: A communication system provides for an active handoff of a voice call between a packet switched network and a circuit switched network. An active handoff from the packet switched network to the circuit switched network is accomplished by multicasting the call over forward links of both networks during the handoff. An active handoff from the circuit switched network to the packet switched network is accomplished by multicasting the call over reverse links of both networks during the handoff. The former handoff further may be facilitated by routing the call for each network through a same packet data control switch, and the latter handoff further may be facilitated by routing the call for each network through a same mobile switching center. In order for a subscriber unit to operate concurrently in both networks, the subscriber unit may comprise multiple transceivers or a single transceiver that is rapidly switched between the networks.

  • Publication number: 20050013281
Abstract: A wireless communication system comprises an infrastructure that includes a first network element that is upstream of a second network element, wherein the first network element comprises a first transcoder and the second network element comprises a second transcoder. The communication system controls a transcoding of voice by determining a first bearer type supported by the first transcoder, determining a second bearer format type mutually supported by the infrastructure and a mobile station serviced by the infrastructure, and selecting one of the first transcoder and the second transcoder to transcode the voice based on the first bearer format type and the second bearer format type.

  • Patent number: 4944827
Abstract: A label printing system. The system includes a computer output printer of the type having a platen roller, a bail rod assembly and a tractor feeder, together defining a web path. A separator rod is attached parallel to the bail rod and introduces a separation angle into the web path. Labels attached to a web of released material are peeled by the separation angle after printing. Variable information is printed on a label being processed and the web is advanced to print fixed information on the next label; moving the printed label over the separator rod and peeling it from the web. A thin edge is left attached to facilitate retrieval by the operator of the printed label. A shipping manifest system including the subject label printer is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 4022457
Abstract: A system for progressively folding a sheet as it continuously moves along a feed path from a printer to an envelope inserting station; said system including an arrangement for initially forming longitudinal score lines on a sheet and for then progressively laterally bending and creasing the sheet along said score lines to as to form a folded sheet having a plurality of mutually overlying panels. The scoring and lateral bending operations take place in a progressive manner as the sheet continuously moves along its substantially linear feed path.

  • Patent number: 4019640
Abstract: Apparatus for accumulating sheet material in stacked relation on a vertically descending tray and transferring the stack for subsequent processing. An oscillating transfer mechanism is positioned in the path of movement of the tray as it is lowered. The tray and stack is pivoted by cam means into a complemental position with the transfer mechanism and as it passes the transfer mechanism is deposits the accumulated stack on the transfer mechanism. The transfer mechanism is then oscillated to remove the stack. When the stacking tray has assumed its transfer mode, an auxiliary sheet material receiving tray is formed by rotating two vanes from a vertical to horizontal position to receive subsequent sheets. Upon return of the stack tray to its initial position, the vanes are rotated back to their horizontal position dropping the accumulated sheets to the tray.
