Patent number: 7931622Abstract: A needle protector that protects the tip or distal end of a cannula, a trocar, or a cannula/trocar combination, is provided by an extruded tubing that has at least a section thereof that includes one or a plurality of protrusions or protuberances that are configured in a given fashion so that there is a slight bend created at that section of the tube, when the tube is fitted onto a cannula or trocar with the protrusions coming into contact with the outer diameter surface of the cannula or trocar. This results in friction contact between the protrusions and the cannula or trocar to maintain the tube protector in place relative to the cannula or trocar. The protrusions may be punched or lanced in the tube to a given depth towards the interior of the tube to establish a given friction contact.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2008Date of Patent: April 26, 2011Assignee: Smiths Medical ASD, Inc.Inventors: William Beling, Ronald Travis, Kristin Finberg, James Marrs, Lyle V. Patent number: 7850658Abstract: An infusion device including a site and a set for delivery of a substance to a patient. The site can include a cannula that is introduced into a subcutaneous layer of skin of the patient. The site is coupled to the skin of a patient by an adhesive portion including a release feature that allows the patient to remove the adhesive portion from the skin. The set can be coupled to the site by, for example, placing the set over the site and moving the set from an unlocked to a locked position. The substance can then be delivered through the set to the site, and from the site into the patient through the cannula. The set can be oriented at multiple rotational orientations with respect to the site, and can be coupled and uncoupled with the site multiple times.Type: GrantFiled: August 13, 2004Date of Patent: December 14, 2010Assignee: Smiths Medical ASD, Inc.Inventors: Mark Faust, Timothy Bresina, James Marrs

Patent number: 7699807Abstract: A device for inserting a cannula of a subcutaneous infusion device into a subcutaneous layer of skin of a patient. For example, some devices automatically retract a needle used to introduce the cannula of a subcutaneous infusion device into the subcutaneous layer of skin of a patient. The device can include a housing with an internal cavity, as well as a needle coupled to the housing. The needle can be coupled to a cannula of a subcutaneous infusion device. A member can move the needle. Upon full introduction of the needle and associated cannula of the subcutaneous infusion device into a subcutaneous layer of skin of a patient, the member is automatically actuated to move the needle into the internal cavity of the housing into the retracted state while leaving the cannula of the subcutaneous infusion device in the subcutaneous layer of skin of the patient.Type: GrantFiled: November 10, 2003Date of Patent: April 20, 2010Assignee: Smiths Medical ASD, Inc.Inventors: Mark Faust, James Marrs, Steve Cote

Publication number: 20090287153Abstract: A device for inserting a subcutaneous infusion device into skin of a patient. The device can include a housing, a needle hub including a needle, a sleeve, and a spring engaging the needle hub. The device can also include a cap coupled to the housing, and a retention member configured to maintain the device in a ship state prior to decoupling of the cap from the housing. In one example, the retention member can include a boss coupled to the cap and configured to engage the infusion device to maintain the infusion device in the ship state prior to decoupling of the cap from the housing. Publication number: 20080103450Abstract: A site for a subcutaneous infusion device includes a base positionable relative to skin of a patient, and a cannula extending from the base and configured to be introduced into a subcutaneous layer of skin of the patient at a generally ninety-degree angle with respect to the skin using a needle. The cannula includes first and second ends and defines a bore extending from the first end to the second end, the first end being coupled to the base. The cannula includes a tapered wall portion formed between the first and second ends and extending from adjacent to the base towards the second end of the cannula, the tapered wall portion being tapered from a greater wall thickness to a lesser wall thickness as the tapered wall portion extends from the base towards the second end.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 31, 2006Publication date: May 1, 2008Inventors: James Marrs, Mark Faust, Timothy Bresina

Publication number: 20070143551Abstract: An atomic compare and swap operation that can be implemented in processor system having a power processor element (PPE) and a synergistic processor element (SPE) that have different sized memory transfer capabilities. The PPE notifies an SPE to perform a compare and swap operation on an address in main memory. The address has a size less than or equal to a maximum memory transfer size for the SPE and greater than a maximum memory transfer size for the PPE. The SPE atomically performs the compare and swap operation and notifies the PPE of the success or failure of the compare and swap operation.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2005Publication date: June 21, 2007Applicant: Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: James Marr, John Bates

Publication number: 20070130438Abstract: Atomic operations may be implemented on a processor system having a main memory and two or more processors including a power processor element (PPE) and a synergistic processor element (SPE) that operate on different sized register lines. A main memory address containing a primitive is divided into a parity byte and two or more portions, wherein the parity byte includes at least one bit. A value of the parity byte determines which of the two or more portions is a valid portion and which of them is an invalid portion. The primitive is of a memory size that is larger than a maximum size for atomic operation with the PPE and less than or equal to a maximum size for atomic operation with the SPE. Read with reservation and conditional write instructions are used by both the PPE and SPE to access or update a value of the atomic.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 1, 2005Publication date: June 7, 2007Applicant: Sonny Computer Entertainment Inc.Inventors: James Marr, John Bates, Attila Vass, Tatsuya Iwamoto

Publication number: 20060162064Abstract: An emergency shower system for attachment to a water pipe located behind a wall and a valve mounted to the pipe. The system includes a frame mounted to the wall around the valve, a panel connected to the frame for covering an opening in the wall to expose the valve, the panel having an opening, a plate mounted to the panel to close the panel opening and a handle mounted to the plate. The system also includes a linkage pivotally connected to the plate and to the valve, such that vertical movement of the handle and plate are translated to rotational movement by the linkage so as to operate the valve. There are no openings apparent in the front of the shower system. The handle only moves vertically and at a constant distance of about one and a half inches from the wall. An eye/face wash station may be included with the shower. The eye/face wash station includes a pull down tray with two spray nozzles. The nozzles are connected to another valve which is opened by the rotation of the pull down tray.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 4, 2006Publication date: July 27, 2006Inventors: James Marrs, Robert Johnson
