  • Patent number: 7530271
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for coupling ultrasound between an ultrasonic transducer and an object. A scanning element is attached to an ultrasonic transducer to form an integral transducer assembly in which an ultrasound emitting surface of the ultrasonic transducer is positioned in a fluid cavity of an upper chamber. The ultrasonic transducer assembly may be moved relative to the object to be scanned in order to adjust the focus of the ultrasound. Adjusting a lower wall of the upper chamber in close proximity to the object to be scanned forms a thin film of coupling fluid between a planar region of the lower wall and the upper surface of the object.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 1, 2006
Date of Patent: May 12, 2009
    Assignee: Sonix, Inc.
    Inventors: Ralph Busch, James McKeon

  • Publication number: 20050119571
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for coupling ultrasound between an ultrasonic transducer and an object. A fluid cavity in an upper chamber has an inlet for receiving a flow of coupling fluid, a first aperture for admitting the ultrasonic transducer into the fluid cavity and a second aperture for dispensing coupling fluid from the fluid cavity to the object. The first and second apertures may be sized to restrict flow of coupling fluid from the fluid cavity. The focus of the ultrasound transducer may be varied by moving the ultrasonic transducer relative to the upper chamber.

  • Patent number: 6615894
Abstract: An accordion fire door is provided including an accordion member having interlocking panels formed of a fire retardant or fire proof material, a guide member positioned on at least one side of the accordion member for guiding the accordion member during movement between an opened position and a closed position, end locks arranged at interconnected ends of adjacent panels for maintaining panel contact and alignment, and a releasing member connected to the accordion member for releasing the accordion member in response to a predetermined condition of at least one of heat, fire, smoke, manual initiation and a drive. The panels are self hinged along the entire interlocking sides.

  • Patent number: 6056805
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for the separation of non-polar organic molecules from fluids which utilize certain hydrocarbon block copolymers having soft and hard segments as absorbents. By employing hydrocarbon block copolymer having a particular concentration of soft and hard segments, optimum absortion is achieved while maintaining the mechanical structure of the absorbent so that it can withstand high fluid flow rates.

  • Patent number: 6027634
Abstract: A petroleum derived oil is subjected to propane deasphalting to yield a solid asphaltene residue. The residue is crushed to 425 micron diameter particle or less at a crushing temperature in the range of 77.degree. F. to 122.degree. F. The asphaltene particles are suspended in a residual petroleum oil emulsion. The resulting suspension comprises 5 wt % to 40 wt % asphaltene particles. The 40 wt % asphaltene suspensions are boiler fuel. The 5 wt % asphaltene suspensions are gasified with a deficit of oxygen to produce synthesis gas. The suspensions are stable and transportable by pumping through a pipeline.

  • Patent number: 5542460
Abstract: The present invention is provided with a mechanism for controlling the opening and closing of a door comprising a speed reduction means for reducing a rotational speed. A high speed shaft is connected to the speed reduction means and is connectable to a means for rotating the input shaft, and a low speed output shaft is connected to the speed reduction means. A governor is mounted on the input shaft for limiting the rotational speed thereof, to also regulate the rotational speed of the output shaft. A brake is provided for preventing rotation of the output shaft, and a self-closing mechanism is operatively connected to the door. The self-closing mechanism is adapted for storing energy when the door is opened to an open position, and a connecting means operatively connects the output shaft to the self-closing mechanism.
