  • Publication number: 20070119035
Abstract: An apparatus for performing well intervention work on a rig. The apparatus comprises a first spreader that is operatively connected to a derrick, a pair of I-beams that have a distal end and a proximal end, and wherein the distal end of the pair of I-beams are connected to the first spreader. The apparatus further comprises a second spreader, and wherein the proximal end of the I-beams is connected to the second spreader. The apparatus further comprises a first pivot point on the first spreader and a second pivot point on the second spreader. In the most preferred embodiment, the apparatus further comprises a door, operatively attached to the second spreader, for allowing entry of the tubular. Also, the second spreader may include a shoulder for engagement with a tubular so that the tubular is supported by the second spreader so that the weight of the tubular can be transferred to the second spreader. A method of lifting a tubular used in well intervention work on a rig is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20060060360
Abstract: A surface flow control system for a well. The system comprises a main housing having a main bore there through, and a first port communicating with the main bore. The system further comprises a first valve positioned within the main bore, and wherein the first valve is placed at a position above said first port; and, a second valve positioned within the main bore of the main housing, and wherein the second valve is placed at a position below the first port. The system may further include a swivel connected to the main housing. A second port communicating with the main bore may also be included. In one embodiment, the first port is connected to a tank for collecting fluids discharged from the well, and the second port is connected to a pump for pumping into the well. A method of controlling well pressure is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050199400
Abstract: An apparatus for supporting a structure on a platform. The platform may be a floating platform. The apparatus comprises a base frame, wherein the base frame has a first bracket and a second bracket attached thereto. The apparatus further includes a x-axis frame having a first pivot point and a second pivot point. The apparatus further comprises a z-axis frame having a third pivot point and a fourth pivot point. A sliding frame assembly is operatively positioned within the z-axis frame, and wherein the sliding frame assembly has a plurality of rods for connecting with an injector head. The apparatus may further include a motion restriction system that restricts movement of the x-axis frame and the z-axis frame. The sliding frame assembly comprises a sliding pad for lateral movement. A method for compensating for the movement of a floating platform having a riser extending therefrom is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050189118
Abstract: An apparatus for lifting and moving a load. The apparatus comprises a lift frame having a first and second vertical member that are connected so that a working window area is defined. The apparatus further comprises a rotary actuator mounted on the first vertical member, and an arm having a first end and a second end, and wherein the first end of the arm is pivotly connected to the rotary actuator. The arm is pivotal from an area exterior of the working window area to an area within the working window area. The apparatus may further comprise a winch, operatively attached to the arm, for lifting a load with the cable. A method of lifting a load is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20050129464
Abstract: A system for providing motion compensation of a platform attached to an ocean floor. The platform is operatively associated with a riser extending from a subterranean well. The system comprises a frame member positioned on the platform and a deck slidably attached to the frame member, and wherein the deck is attached to the riser. The system further comprises a moving device for moving the frame member relative to the deck. In one of the preferred embodiments, the frame member contains a plurality of guide post and wherein the deck is slidably mounted on the guide post so that the frame member is movable relative to the deck. The moving device may comprise a cylinder member operatively attached to the frame member and a piston operatively attached to the deck and wherein the system further comprises a pressurized recharging vessel configured to direct a pneumatic supply to the cylinder member, and a gas delivery mechanism for keeping the cylinder member within a pressure range.
