  • Patent number: 4344105
Abstract: A power capacitor and method of making it employs the technique of stacking capacitor sections together in an enclosure of which each section includes rolled electrode foils and dielectric layers of which at least one of the electrodes has a rolled edge resulting in a greater thickness in that portion of the section. In order to permit thorough impregnation of the section, the winding tension is deliberately made loose and the initially resulting section is insufficiently tight to retain conductive tabs reliably in contact with the foil electrodes. The stacked sections have, however, between them in the body portion intermediate the rolled edges, one or more sheets of material that compress the body portion and insure reliable pressure contact thereat while not interfering with the impregnation of the fluid throughout the section.

  • Patent number: 4121186
Abstract: An indicating sectional two-part fuse is provided having a high-current current-limiting section, and a low-current expulsion section, mechanically connected together, and in electrical series, the low-current section utilizing a standard-type fuse-link, which may be replaced. The high-current current-limiting section may contain one or more current-limiting type fuse elements, supported by an interrupter rod within an enclosed casing filled with an arc-extinguishing granular material, and the low-current expulsion section of the fusible device may comprise an open-ended fuse tube, through which the standard fuse-link may extend, with the cable of the fuse-link extending out of the open end of the fuse tube.

  • Patent number: 4074220
Abstract: A fusible device is provided, of the generally-enclosed type, having an improved granular filler material surrounding, or encompassing the one or more fuse links. Preferably, the granular filler material comprises sand and alumina trihydrate (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.3H.sub.2 O). Another filler material, which gives roughly half the improvement of the aluminum trihydrate, is aluminum monohydrate (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.H.sub.2 O) in varying proportions.Of less satisfactory performance, as admixed with the sand, was hydrous alumina silicate (Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.SiO.sub.2.XH.sub.2 O) (unfired lava), and of still less satisfactory performance, is a slight amount of free water physically admixed with sand, although its physical location within the sand is questionable, and such a fuse is of low interrupting reliability.
