  • Patent number: 6439816
Abstract: A lug nut assembly is provided for securing a wheel rim defining at least one aperture to a wheel hub including at least one threaded stud extending from the wheel hub. The lug nut assembly comprises an elongated sleeve that includes a central bore that defines a longitudinal axis. The elongated sleeve has a secured end rotatably secured to the wheel rim and an opposed distal end extending outwardly from the rim. The sleeve includes at least one wrench engaging surface. A nut, having a central threaded bore that is adapted to matingly engage the threaded stud, is slidably mounted within the sleeve to move coaxially along the longitudinal axis of the sleeve. Means are provided for preventing independent rotation of the sleeve relative to the nut.
    Type: Grant
