  • Patent number: 6289267
Abstract: A graphical energy information display system having a menu for user selection of energy related information for an AC load control device, comprising: a device for monitoring AC electrical load usage of a load using a voltage shifter coupled to a sensor to bias the voltage above a ground potential by a predetermined voltage to produce a full-wave biased voltage signal; a graphical display device connected to said device for monitoring AC electrical load usage, said graphical display device adapted so as to graphically display indicia and at least one parameter of the AC electrical load usage of the load said parameters being displayed as a signal representation; menu means for displaying a plurality of selections on said graphical display device, each of said plurality of selections representing at least one parameter of the AC electrical load usage; and menu selection means for selecting at least one of said plurality of selections so as to cause said graphical display device to graphically present the sign

  • Patent number: 6038516
Abstract: A method for graphically displaying a menu for selection and viewing of the load related parameters of a load connected to an AC load control device, comprising the steps of: (a) monitoring the load related parameters of the load connected to the AC load control device using a voltage shifter coupled to a sensor to bias the voltage above a ground potential by a predetermined voltage to produce a full-wave biased voltage signal; (b) displaying on a graphical display device a menu of a plurality of indicia representing the monitored load related parameters; (c) scrolling through each indicia on said menu; and (d) selecting an item from said menu thereby causing the load related parameters relating to the said indicia to appear on said graphical display device as a signal representation.

  • Patent number: 6018451
Abstract: A logging device for a trip unit records temporal information related to a circuit breaker trip event, with the circuit breaker (11) including a trip unit (12). The device (10) includes at least a clock circuit (13), a microcontroller (14), and a storage medium (15). The device (10) can be configured as either a plug-in module for the trip unit (12), or as an accessory is mounted on the panel proximate to and in communication with the trip unit (12). The clock circuit (13) generates signals representing temporal information, such as real-time date and time information. The microcontroller (14) is adapted to be coupled to the trip unit (12) to receive signals from the trip unit (12). These signals from the trip unit (12) indicate a circuit breaker trip event. The microcontroller (14) receives the time and date information from the clock circuit (13) and associates a given trip event with the time and date information related to that given trip event.

  • Patent number: 5490086
Abstract: The present invention provides a plug-in ground fault monitor module for a circuit breaker trip unit configured to operate with a plurality of different plug-in plug-in modules. The ground fault monitor module includes a memory which stores data representative of the its particular function. This memory is readable by the trip unit and enables the trip unit to automatically adapt to communicate monitored ground fault data to the ground fault module. The ground fault module also includes means for setting threshold levels for a ground fault alarm signal. The ground fault alarm signal is generated independently of ground fault alarms in the trip unit based on its internal thresholds. This signal can be used to control an external relay which operates a shunt trip mechanism or an external alarm. The trip unit includes a processor and programming which permits a bi-directional flow of data between the units, such as display data and control data.

  • Patent number: 4631625
Abstract: A microprocessor based trip unit for a circuit breaker is disclosed. The instantaneous current magnitudes in each phase and in the neutral of the circuit being protected are simultaneously and sequentially sampled by respective sample and hold circuits. The measured values are then applied to a respective analog-to-digital converter and the digitized values are sequentially applied to a microprocessor. The microprocessor calculates true RMS current and sums the signals of all phases and neutral to determine presence and magnitude of a ground fault current. To permit use of an 8-bit microprocessor, while maintaining high resolution of measured current over a large range, novel automatic scale adjustment is provided. The memory of prior thermal history of the circuit breaker is provided electronically by a capacitor circuit which is discharged at a rate representative of the rate of cooling of the circuit breaker.
