  • Publication number: 20040152206
Abstract: A sample collection and testing system comprises a collection device and a core device. The collection device comprises a main body and a number of interchangeable sampling apparatuses. The core device comprises a sample distributor and a number of independent testing strips that can simultaneously perform different tests on the same sample. Vents are provided to enhance wicking of sample through the test strips. In addition, a sample retention chamber or pocket is provided to maintain an unadulterated portion of the sample for subsequent retesting or confirmatory testing, for instance.

  • Patent number: 6692416
Abstract: A pair of handles are provided for attachment to an exercising apparatus having at least one that cable that provides resistance to a force exerted on the cable. Each handle is formed of a handgrip of a size suitable for grasping in the hand of a user. Each handle also includes a single, solid, rigid rod bent to define a straight, cylindrical grip attachment portion that fits within the hand grip, a straight proximal portion that is inclined relative to the grip attachment portion at two angles, considered in two orthogonal planes of reference, both of which contain the axis of the grip attachment portion, an arcuately curved intermediate portion, and a straight, distal portion. An omnidirectional cable coupling is provided at the distal portion of the rod. The rods are formed in mirror image to each other, considered in the second reference plane.

  • Patent number: 5842961
Abstract: An adjustable resistance exercise machine including a pulley system and a cable connecting a handle to a weight. The handle is shaped to permit a free range of motion and an essentially unlimited number of exercises. Specifically, the handle is an angulated non-planar J-shaped tubular rod having a first end portion forming the stem of the J, and at least three segments forming the loop of the J. The second end portion of the rod forms the last segment of the loop of the J and lies in a first plane with the adjacent segment. The first end portion and the first segment lie in a plane at an angle to the first plane. A body engaging member is rotatably mounted on the first end portion of the tubular rod. The body engaging member may be a sleeve for the user to grip or a cuff for strapping onto various pats of the user's body, e.g., the foot or ankle.

  • Patent number: 5785688
Abstract: An apparatus (120) useful for, among other things, subcutaneous drug delivery includes a housing (124), a fluid reservoir (154) disposed within the housing for storing the fluid, a pump or pressurized chamber for pressurizing a driving gas and exerting a force on the fluid reservoir to expel the fluid reservoir's contents, and a needle (150) or absorbent pad fluidically communicating with the reservoir. The apparatus may further include a pump activation mechanism such as a button and an electrical circuit such that pushing the button activates a circuit and connects a battery (138) to a pump (126), and a pump control mechanism such as electrical circuitry to control the voltage gradient to a pump to control fluid delivery.

  • Patent number: 5421080
Abstract: A multiconductor and support has a plurality of elongate conductive elements each with a pair of termini. An elongate support means, carrying adjacent conductive elements, has openings located at the distal and the proximal ends for alignment with conductive elements extending thereover leaving the distal termini thereof unsupported. Heat activated adhesive on the support means bonds the conductive elements. Each of the conductive elements are spaced from the other conductive elements and have center lines which are parallel. A machine for assembly of a multiconductor and support means has a plurality of spools supplying conductive elements and a plurality of guides each positioned to receive and align the supplied conductive elements. The guides position the conductive elements spaced from and parallel to each other. A supply of support means moves support means intermittently but synchronously between the conductive elements and a flat surface.
