  • Patent number: 6181438
Abstract: A method and apparatus for the control of darkness/lightness in a digital image rendered by a printing system. The technique preferably employs templates to selectively apply different amounts of darkening (lightening) to borders of structures detected within the image dependent upon the need for darkening (lightening).

  • Patent number: 5659405
Abstract: A digital scanner includes a multipurpose registration member that has a document registration edge locate surface, a carriage horizontal locate surface, a carriage vertical locate surface, and a platen locate surface. The platen locate surface provides registration for a transparent platen and the document registration edge locate surface provides registration for a registration edge member. The carriage horizontal locate surface and the carriage vertical locate surface provides registration for a scanning carriage which abuts the slide pad. Also, the multipurpose registration member includes a document handle locate surface to registration a document handler. The inclusion of these locate surfaces on a single registration member enables efficient assembly, without extraneous manual adjustments, of a digital scanner having proper registration.

  • Patent number: 5430536
Abstract: A document handling system particularly suitable for electronic imaging by sequentially feeding uppermost document sheets stacked in an input tray to be imaged in forward serial order at an imaging station and restacked collated in an output tray, with a short and compact "U" shaped common document feeding path also providing the majority of a duplex document feeding path for returning duplex document sheets imaged on their first sides back to the imaging station for imaging their second sides. The input and output trays are in a space saving closely superposed relationship defining a protective confining inverter chute space therebetween within which the duplex document sheets may be fed out over the output tray by a dual mode reversible output sheet feeder at the "U" shaped path output and then reversed to feed back through a short linear duplex document feeding path into the entrance of the same "U" shaped document sheet feeding path for simplex document sheets to provide a duplex loop path.

  • Patent number: 4916483
Abstract: A device for rotating by a small angle, documents placed on an imaging device platen, for improved skew angle registration during imaging. An imaging device provided with a platen cover for covering the imaging platen of the imaging device includes document engagement member rotatably supported on the platen cover, between the imaging platen and the platen cover when the platen cover is in a closed position with respect to the platen of the imaging device. The document engagement member has a document contacting surface providing substantially non-slipping engagement of the document engagement member with documents placed on the platen when the platen cover is closed. An arrangement is provided for rotational adjustment of documents placed on the platen, at an externally accessible surface of the platen cover, and coupled to the document engagment member, for rotating the document engagement member through a small angle increment, and by consequence, documents engaged thereto, with respect to the platen.

  • Patent number: 3988065
Abstract: A copying apparatus with a document copying platen, including a substantially uniformly light reflective platen cover for holding documents against the platen, and including document drive wheels having light reflective constant width surfaces partially extendable through fixed apertures in the platen cover towards the platen. The fixed apertures in the platen cover are wider than the drive wheels to allow their limited transverse movement. Light reflective shields having an aperture the same width as the wheels are mounted in the platen cover so that each wheel extends through a light shield aperture with each light shield closely fitted to both sides of a wheel. Each light shield is movable transversely together with its wheel, but each light shield constantly overlies its fixed aperture in the platen cover irrespective of this transverse movement to constantly present a substantially uninterrupted light reflective surface over the platen together with the wheel.
