Publication number: 20260121988Abstract: A method for managing traffic processed by a target network function of a communication network is disclosed. The target network function transmits and receives traffic over a communication channel that carries traffic between network functions and application functions. The method, performed by a Data Analytics Function (DAF) of a communication network, comprises receiving information about traffic flows over the communication channel, establishing a priority amongst traffic flows over the communication channel, based on the received information, generating a recommendation for traffic processing on the basis of the established priority, and sending the generated recommendation to a function in the network that has a management responsibility for the target network function.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2024Publication date: April 30, 2026Inventors: Nipun SHARMA, Rakesh BAJPAI, Hans ERIKSSON, Tushar SABHARWAL, Rajiv BHARDWAJ, Michael GRIMES, James O'MEARA

Counterfactual and Recourse Method for Recommending Network Configurations towards Favorable Outcome
Publication number: 20250119360Abstract: A method for improving communication network performance comprises identifying a favorability status of individual predictions and/or decisions of a plurality of decisions of a machine-learning algorithm acting on the communication network. The favorability statuses are stored with corresponding values of network parameters used as features in the algorithm. A counterfactual algorithm is generated, e.g., by generating a tree-based classification algorithm, based on the stored favorability statuses and network parameter values, to derive rules for producing a favorable status based on one or more of the network parameters. A proposed recourse action comprising a change in at least one of the network parameters is identified, based on the rules, and a decision network, such as a Bayesian inference network, is generated for determining a confidence level estimating a reliability of achieving a favorable status by changing the network parameter(s).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2022Publication date: April 10, 2025Inventors: Arun Mathew Kunnumpurath Jacob, Ashwin Raghavan, James O'Meara, Paddy Farrell, Premnath Kandhasamy Narayanan -
Patent number: 12250131Abstract: A method of managing predicting anomalies in operation of a communications network. The method includes receiving network performance data, including network performance data received as time series of values representing monitored characteristics. The method also includes detecting a first anomaly in operation of the communications network and, from historical network performance data, determining if an instance of the first anomaly occurred in the past. If this is a first occurrence of the first anomaly, then based on network performance data received before detecting the first anomaly the method includes building a first model for predicting an instance of the first anomaly and deploying the first model to operate. An apparatus implementing the method is also disclosed.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 2020Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Publ)Inventors: Premnath Kandhasamy Narayanan, James O'Meara, Paddy Farrell

Publication number: 20250047743Abstract: A method by a network function of a wireless communication system includes receiving structured non-tabular data relating to the wireless communication system, wherein the structured non-tabular data includes network topology data in graph format. The structured non-tabular data is converted into tabular data. Converting the structured non-tabular data into tabular data includes identifying a baseline object of a graph of the network topology data and generating a row of tabular data for each baseline object in the graph of the network topology data. The method further includes storing the tabular data in a data store for access by consumer applications in the wireless communication system.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2021Publication date: February 6, 2025Inventors: Arun Mathew KUNNUMPURATH JACOB, Ashwin RAGHAVAN, James O'MEARA, Mats BLOMGREN, Premnath KANDHASAMY NARAYANAN

Patent number: 6005858Abstract: A telecommunications switching system (1) has a switch unit (2) having switches (9) controlled by local modules (10). These modules implement instructions which are either in-build or are received from remote modules (20) on machines (6, 7, 8) which communicate via a central router (3). This allows almost unlimited processing scalability and versatility. An application object base (21) has an object corresponding directly to a local module (10) or a subset thereof and a signal base (22) provides signal-level commands understood by the local module (10). A signal transfer function (23) on the remote machine (6), and a signal transfer function (11) on the switch unit (2) provide for direct transfer of signals in both directions. There is no need to modify the local modules (10) as the signal transfer function (11) is addressable as a local module and the remote aspect of the interaction is transparent to the local modules (10).Type: GrantFiled: June 17, 1997Date of Patent: December 21, 1999Assignee: Ericsson Invention Ireland LimitedInventors: Liam Fallon, Michael Adams, James O'Meara
