  • Patent number: 9249634
Abstract: A method for removing a tubular from a wellbore can include repeatedly and sequentially using an upper gripping member of an upper section and a lower gripping member of a lower section to hydraulically grip the tubular, while repeatedly and sequentially extending and retracting the upper section relative to the lower section to raise the tubular from the wellbore to a predetermined height. At least one lifting hole can be formed in the tubular, and a lifting member can be installed in each lifting hole. A hoist can be connected with each lifting member. The tubular can be cut using a saw and removed from the wellbore using the hoist.

  • Patent number: 9133669
Abstract: A tubular lift safety system can include a wellbore tubular removal system for removing tubulars from wellbores, which can have an upper section movable relative to a lower section. The upper section and the lower section can both have gripping members for gripping and releasing the tubulars while the upper section is moved relative to the lower section; thereby removing the tubulars from the wellbore. The upper section can have cutting devices for forming lifting holes and a saw for cutting the tubulars. A fluid source can control extension and retraction of the upper section relative to the lower section, operation of the gripping members, and operation of the saw. A remote control can monitor pressure from the fluid source.

  • Patent number: 9038712
Abstract: A wellbore tubular lift safety system and tubular lifting apparatus for removing tubulars can include a lower section with a lower base plate hole, sliding rods, and a lower gripping member. An upper section can have an upper base plate hole, a saw mounting plate hole, an upper gripping member, and cylinder barrels. The sliding rods can be engaged within the cylinder barrels, and can be moved therein for extending and retracting the upper section. The apparatus can be positioned over the wellbore in a retracted position to align with the tubular. The tubular can be lifted out of the wellbore by gripping the tubular using the gripping members, and extending and retracting the upper section. The apparatus can form lifting holes in the tubular, install lifting members in the lifting holes, saw the tubular, and allow the cut tubular to be lifted via a hoist.

  • Patent number: 8539976
Abstract: A back pressure valve for providing a double barrier to flow for use with a tubing hanger within a well bore, wherein the back pressure valve can have a first body piece threadably engaged and sealed with a second body piece. A first piston can engage a first surface for sealing bottom pressure to provide a first barrier to flow. A second piston can engage a second surface for redundantly sealing bottom pressure to provide a second barrier to flow. The back pressure valve can have one-way and two-way back pressure valve assemblies. The two-way back pressure valve assembly can include a bidirectional piston having a double sealing face for engaging sealing surfaces and sealing bottom pressure from the well bore while allowing testing without stopping a flow of fluid.

  • Patent number: 8522864
Abstract: A stripper blow out preventer for oil field equipment, wherein the stripper blow out preventer can include a housing with a bore. The housing can have an open port and close port for accepting the hydraulic fluid, and a grease port for accepting grease. An annular recess of the housing can be in communication with the bore. A retainer ring can be engaged in the annular recess. A piston can be disposed in the annular recess. A seal element can be disposed in the annular recess between the retainer ring and the piston, and can have a thru bore. An insert can be engaged with the retainer ring. When the close port is pressurized, the piston can press against the seal element to form a seal against the oil field equipment. When the open port is pressurized, the piston can move to relax the seal element.

  • Patent number: 8109330
Abstract: An angled or inline choke for flowing drilling fluid to a choke and kill manifold, wherein the choke has a body with a bore, a connection can be sealed to the body and can have a connection bore in communication with the bore. A locking plate can index the connection to the body. The choke can have a cavity with a piston. A port can be in communication with the cavity to provide a hydraulic fluid to the piston. A choke bean in the bore can flow drilling fluid to the choke and kill manifold. A tip can connect to the choke bean with a rod. When the hydraulic fluid passes into the port, the piston can move within the bore and compress a choke element around the tip to cause restriction of the drilling fluid, enabling for control of a pressure of the drilling fluid.
