Patent number: 8459284Abstract: An apparatus for preparing a chemical solution includes a lower housing and an upper housing. The lower housing has a base, an upper plate having a central opening, and a side wall. A grid mounted on the upper plate covers the opening. A wall within the lower housing divides the interior of the lower housing into a central inner chamber and an annular outer chamber; this wall extends into an upper portion of the lower housing. One portion of the wall has a reduced height to permit fluid flow from the inner chamber to the outer chamber. A nozzle is mounted in the inner chamber for discharging fluid into the inner chamber, and causes local elevation of a portion of the fluid surface above the grid. The nozzle may be an eductor creating a venturi effect to draw fluid into the eductor.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 2010Date of Patent: June 11, 2013Assignee: Arch Chemicals, Inc.Inventors: James P. Brennan, Zachary H. Adams, Paul Z. Cao

Patent number: 6626749Abstract: An apparatus for detecting when a coin hopper in a gaming machine is low on coins and alerting the operator that service is required. An exemplary embodiment employs a system, which includes a probe for detecting the coin level and providing a signal to a detection circuit, and a circuit that receives the probe signal for determination of the low coin hopper condition. The circuit also provides a signal for illuminating an enunciator to inform the operator of the status of the gaming machine; and a signal to inform a central computer system of the status of the gaming machine.Type: GrantFiled: May 24, 2001Date of Patent: September 30, 2003Assignee: Mohegan Tribal Gaming AuthorityInventors: Francis L. Neborsky, James P. Brennan

Patent number: 6247572Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the invention is a system for detecting the status of a bill validator in a gaming device. The system includes a credit detector for receiving a signal from the gaming device and generating a credit detector signal indicating whether the gaming device has one or more credits. A bill validator enable detector receives a signal from the gaming device and generates a bill validator enable signal indicating the status of the bill validator. A coin lockout detector receives a signal from the gaming device and generates a coin lockout signal indicating whether the gaming device is ready for play. A logic unit generates an error signal indicative of a malfunction in the bill validator in response to the credit detector signal, the bill validator enable signal and the coin lockout signal.Type: GrantFiled: September 3, 1999Date of Patent: June 19, 2001Assignee: Mohegan Tribal Gaming AuthorityInventors: Francis L. Neborsky, James P. Brennan, Kevin R. Fletcher

Patent number: 5419355Abstract: An apparatus and method for dissolving a chlorine containing treating material such as calcium hypochlorite in which water is fed to a container preferably in the form of a column containing the treating material. The water is caused to cyclically rise in the container to a predetermined height to dissolve a portion of the material and then discharge to a storage container to empty the material containing container. The height at which the water rises within the container, the cross-sectional area of the container and the length of time the liquid is in contact with the material during the cycle is set to produce a solution having a concentration of from between about 2 to about 18% available chlorine at a feed rate of at least about 2 lbs/hr available chlorine. The cyclical action is preferably achieved through the use of a siphon tube connected to the material holding container and through which the fluid in the container is discharged.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1993Date of Patent: May 30, 1995Assignee: Olin CorporationInventors: James P. Brennan, Rocco Telese

Patent number: 4146578Abstract: A process for preparing hypochlorous acid is described in which gaseous chlorine is reacted with an aqueous solution of alkali metal hydroxide in a finely divided mist form at an elevated temperature sufficient to prevent condensation of the gaseous product. Gaseous hypochlorous acid product is immediately separated from the resulting solid alkali metal chloride as it is formed and is then scrubbed with water to form an aqueous hypochlorous acid solution. This solution may be reacted with lime to produce calcium hypochlorite.Type: GrantFiled: December 27, 1977Date of Patent: March 27, 1979Assignee: Olin CorporationInventors: James P. Brennan, John A. Wojtowicz, Preston H. Campbell
