    Abstract: A molten metal stream descends from a ladle through a nozzle and then a shroud into a molten metal bath in a tundish. Structure is provided to contain a ring of inert gas around the nozzle immediately adjacent the junction of the nozzle and the shroud and to prevent outside air from entering the shroud at the junction.
