Patent number: 5040276Abstract: A continuous, high speed (greater than 800 meters per minute) process and apparatus enable the production of a multifilament carpet yarn having a degree of filament intermixture high enough so that a standard deviation of less than 6.0 results upon conducting a Standard Yarn Streak Potential Test, as described herein. The apparatus and process allow the production of a multicolored carpet yarn which exhibits a reduced tendency to streak and an increased retention of tip definition.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 1990Date of Patent: August 20, 1991Assignee: BASF CorporationInventors: Andrew M. Coons, III, James P. Sullivan

Patent number: 5026204Abstract: A two-piece, detachable traffic channelization element having an improved base element. The base element has a low profile, dome-like configuration with a ballast storage chamber. The storage chamber may be completely filled with a sand ballast and sealed in its storage condition by a cover secured to the chamber. The base element is molded of a resilient crush resistant plastic so that when it is fully ballasted, need not be ballasted again, and which low profile base can be traveled over by motor vehicles without engaging the base. The detached base, filled with ballast, can be continuously traveled on by motor vehicles, including loaded trucks, without damaging the base element and rendering it useless and the need to be replaced.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1989Date of Patent: June 25, 1991Assignee: TrafFix Devices, Inc.Inventors: Jack H. Kulp, John D. McKenney, James P. Sullivan

Patent number: 4875708Abstract: A book shade having flaps that can be inserted into a book to hold the shade, and positioning means to position the shade at an acute angle with respect to the pages of the book. Resilient means help hold the book pages in an open position. In another embodiment, a bottom cover contains an open book, while a top cover is held in a selected position with respect to the book so as to shade the book. Springs on the bottom cover urge the pages to remain open at selected pages. The top cover can be placed substantially parallel to the bottom cover in a closed position when the book is not in use.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1987Date of Patent: October 24, 1989Assignees: Gerald F. Patent number: 4773005Abstract: For a computer system having peripheral devices coupled to a common bus through interface devices transmitting and receiving messages containing an address code matching a stored address code, a dynamic address assignment system stores a unique address code in each interface device following system startup. On system start up each interface device stores a type number and an adjustable serial number, type numbers for peripheral devices of the same type being identical while serial numbers for all peripheral devices of the same type are adjusted to different values. A master controller transmits to all peripheral devices a series of universally addressed count commands. Each interface device counts the count commands and, when the count reaches a poll number determined by the unique combination of stored type and serial numbers, requests and obtains a unique address code from the host computer.Type: GrantFiled: September 17, 1987Date of Patent: September 20, 1988Assignee: Tektronix, Inc.Inventor: James P. Patent number: 4313602Abstract: An exercise device adapted to simulate the riding of a bicycle comprising a supporting frame, handlebars, a seat, a front wheel and pedal cranks engageable by the trainee to impart rotational movement to the front wheel. The degree of impedance to rotation of the front wheel can readily be adjusted by the trainee during performance of the exercise. The device also includes a unique impedance indicating feature which dynamically indicates to the trainee the degree of resistance against rotation of the front wheel which is being experienced at any given time.Type: GrantFiled: February 5, 1980Date of Patent: February 2, 1982Assignee: Marcy Gymnasium Equipment Co.Inventor: James P. Patent number: 4283757Abstract: Disclosed herein is an illuminated screw driver or hand tool. The hand tool has a hollow handle body within which is disposed at least one light bulb, one power source and a spring for biasing the light bulb and the power source out of contact with one another. Rotation of an end cap switch moves the power source towards contact with the light bulb thereby completing the circuit and lighting the bulb. Alternate embodiments illustrate illuminated screwdrivers having one, two or three such light bulbs and power sources and spring means for biasing each bulb and power source out of contact with one another. In the embodiment having three light bulbs there is provided a mechanism for selectively turning on one, two or all three of the light bulbs.Type: GrantFiled: July 9, 1979Date of Patent: August 11, 1981Assignee: Tweezer-Lite, Inc.Inventors: A. Eugene Nalbandian, James P. Sullivan

Patent number: 4206848Abstract: A lever of the second class is employed to prise a mold cap free of an ingot mold by tipping the cap about a point on its periphery which is in engagement with the mold mouth. The lifting lever is operated by a power cylinder. A carrier for the lever and its power cylinder is provided to transfer the mold cap from the mold to the pouring platform and back to the mold.Type: GrantFiled: August 28, 1978Date of Patent: June 10, 1980Assignee: Kaiser Steel CorporationInventors: Klaus H. Wiese, James P. Sullivan

Patent number: 3967708Abstract: A first preformed case section with front and bottom panels and top, bottom and side flanges is joined by a hinge with a second case section constructed of two unitarily related preformed parts defining a top, back and end panels. A pair of individual latching mechanisms interconnect the end panels of the two case sections to one another. A locking-latch apparatus is provided on the top panel adjacent the handle, e.g., combination or key lock. With the second case section back wall resting on a horizontal support surface, the first case section on opening extends at 90.degree. to the first case section, with the bottom panel stably resting on the same support surface. Platelike retainers are located on the inner lower panel surface adjacent each end and serve to prevent long garments arranged therein from being clamped between the case section edges during closing.Type: GrantFiled: March 6, 1975Date of Patent: July 6, 1976Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventors: James S. Patent number: 3944032Abstract: A first relatively rigid case section having two end walls with a connecting intermediate wall is interconnected with a flexible second case section via a single zipper with stops defining permanent securement lengths. The first case section also includes a generally C-shaped frame contoured to form the upper wall and extend downwardly a limited amount onto each end wall. Molded plastic supports are affixed to the lower inner end portions of the end walls to provide a firm supportive base for the case. Case sections are otherwise formed of a pliant material, eg, laminated plastic sheets. A cover and strap or bar fold over long garments such as coats or dresses, holding them against the inner wall surfaces of the second case section. A hanger assembly affixed to the inner top wall surface accommodates garment hangers. Optionally, hooklike apparatus connected to the first case section is selectively extendible to the outside of the case to enable toting or hanging of the open case assembly.Type: GrantFiled: March 20, 1974Date of Patent: March 16, 1976Assignee: Samsonite CorporationInventors: Clair A.
