  • Patent number: 4306734
Abstract: A pivoted linkage is associated with an anti-sway mechanism in such a manner as to enable the mechanism to retard lateral sway of a trailer while preventing the mechanism from restricting forward surging of the trailer. As a result of the linkage, the anti-sway mechanism does not interfere with the operation of a surge brake actuator having pivotally interconnected front and rear units.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 29, 1979
Date of Patent: December 22, 1981
    Assignee: Atwood Vacuum Machine Company
Inventors: James P. Swanson, Larry C. Huetsch
  • Patent number: 4239252
Abstract: A trailer is adapted to be hitched to a towing vehicle by a surge brake actuator which includes pivotally interconnected forward and rear units. When the rear unit moves forwardly relative to the forward unit, a plunger assembly is moved to a braking position to actuate a master cylinder and apply the trailer brakes. The disclosure pertains to (1) the construction and operation of the plunger assembly (2) the construction and mounting of the master cylinder (3) a friction lock for holding a breakaway cable in an emergency position when the trailer breaks away from the towing vehicle and (4) a clamping and latching mechanism for releasably coupling the forward unit of the actuator to a hitch ball on the towing vehicle.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 30, 1979
Date of Patent: December 16, 1980
    Assignee: Atwood Vacuum Machine Company
Inventors: Larry C. Huetsch, James P. Swanson, Stephen E. Nyquist

  • Patent number: 4061064
Abstract: Punch presses are positioned for punching holes at selected vertical locations in the flanges of I-beams, angle irons and channels by apparatus which utilizes a movable probe to determine the initial position of the presses and which further utilizes a reversible counter and a comparator to stop the presses after they have moved a selected distance from their initial position.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 1, 1976
Date of Patent: December 6, 1977
    Assignee: W. A. Whitney Corporation
Inventors: Lee Kindgren, James P. Swanson
  • Patent number: 4030391
Abstract: A punch press in which pressure fluid which is introduced into a chamber is used to press a stripper against a workpiece and also to retract a piston which carries a punch. The pressure of the pressure fluid in the chamber is maintained at a substantially constant but selectively adjustable magnitude.
