  • Patent number: 5350369
Abstract: A collection, storage and disposal system for human wastes. An externally positionable patient interface directs wastes through a conduit to a storage container. Accumulated wastes are sealed within the storage container to prevent cross-contamination. The patient interface is extendable through an aperture formed within a seat portion of a support structure which can be converted between bed and chair configurations. A mattress has a foam insert which may be selectively inflated to maintain desired supporting pressure for the patient and to provide a resilient support surface should deflation of the mattress occur.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: October 18, 1991
Date of Patent: September 27, 1994
    Assignee: Burke, Inc.
Inventors: James P. Workman, Thomas S. Hargest
  • Patent number: 5189745
Abstract: A system is provided for the collection, storage and disposal of human wastes. An externally positionable patient interface directs wastes to a storage container. Accumulated wastes are sealed within the storage container to prevent cross-contamination. The patient interface is extendible through an aperture formed within a seat portion of a support structure which can be converted between bed and chair configurations. A mattress includes a permeable core and an air-impermeable covering bonded to the core. The mattress is inflatable to provide the desired supporting pressure for the patient and also to assist in positioning the patient in relation to the aperture and the patient interface.

  • Patent number: 4845815
Abstract: A high speed device (10) for safely removing residual yarn (18) from a paper tube (16) without damage to the latter is provided which includes a specialized multiple-blade cutting assembly (20) serving to completely strip yarn from the tube (16) without tangling. The overall device (10) includes a mandrel assembly (14) for supporting a tube (16) to be processed, together with a shiftable carriage (94) supporting the cutting assembly (20) for axial movement of the latter along the length of the tube (16). The cutting assembly (20) has a high speed, metallic leading cutting blade (68) together with a relatively low speed, synthetic resin trailing cutting blade (70) presenting a serrated outer periphery. The leading blade (68) is oriented slightly above the outer surface of the tube (16) for cutting the majority of the residual yarn (18), whereas the trailing blade (70) is positioned for contacting the tube (16) and removing any yarn remnants (18a).

  • Patent number: 4377106
Abstract: A disposable, one-piece locking clip may be snapped onto a dispensing pump directly below the depressible head thereof for the purpose of blocking depression of the head so long as the clip is in place. The clip may be attached to and serve as an overlock for a permanent, selectively operable lock intended to remain with the pump indefinitely as a way of preventing accidental fluid discharge during periods of nonuse, the clip in that event serving as a means for preventing access to the permanent lock. The specific manner in which the clip is snap-fitted in place is unexposed and virtually nonaccessible so as to prevent removal of the clip or actuation of the pump without first pulling a break tab that splits the clip in half and releases the same from the pump.
