  • Publication number: 20040070891
Abstract: A method is disclosed for fitting a rotor enclosure over at least one assembly of field windings mounted on a rotor core, said method comprising the steps: applying a force to elastically reduce a circumference of the at least one assembly of field windings mounted on the rotor core, where the reduction in circumference is greater than a circumference reduction due to just eliminating clearances between adjacent end-turns of windings; generating a clearance between the field windings and the rotor enclosure due to the application of the force; axially sliding the rotor enclosure over the at least one assembly of field windings while the circumference is reduced, and releasing the force to allow the circumference of the at least one assembly of field windings to expand and cause the enclosure to tightly fit on the at least one assembly of field windings.

  • Publication number: 20030194051
Abstract: An imaging system includes an X-ray source adapted to move in an arc shaped path and a stationary electronic X-ray detector. The system also includes a track and a mechanical driving mechanism which is adapted to move the X-ray source in the arc shaped path. A tomosynthesis X-ray imaging method includes mechanically moving an X-ray source in a stepped motion on an arc shaped path around an object using a track and irradiating the object with an X-ray dose from the X-ray source located at a plurality of steps along the arc shaped path. The method also includes detecting the X-rays transmitted through the object with an electronic X-ray detector, and constructing a three dimensional image of the object from a signal output by the electronic X-ray detector.

  • Patent number: 6590311
Abstract: A rotor for a rotating electrical machine includes pole faces arranged at locations on either side, respectively, of the rotor D-axis and fins arranged along the rotor Q-axis. The fins increase a section bending moment of inertia along the Q-axis, thereby reducing the need for deep slots in the pole faces extending along the D-axis, resulting in better symmetry of bending stiffness.

  • Patent number: 6577028
Abstract: The resistive power leads of a high temperature superconducting (HTS) rotor field coil are located in vacuum near the rotor axis and are cooled by thermal conduction to the return flow path by bonding the leads to the tubing bulkhead through ceramic insulators. The lead length, cross-section and electrical resistivity are optimized for minimum heat conduction and ohmic resistance heat transfer to the cold gas. Thermal expansion or contraction of the leads is accommodated by flexible sections at the warm and cold end of the leads.

  • Publication number: 20020170166
Abstract: A racetrack shaped high temperature superconducting (HTS) coil is fabricated by layer winding HTS tape under tension on a precision coil form with a binder such as pre-preg filament-ply interlayer insulation. The coil form includes a racetrack shaped bobbin, two side plates and a series of blocks that define the outside surface of the coil. The outside surface of the winding is over-wrapped with a copper foil bonded to heat exchanger tubing. The coil is baked in the coil form to cure the epoxy then released from the coil form. The resulting coil structure is a strong winding composite built to close tolerance dimensions.
