  • Patent number: 8459318
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting dado cuts in a board includes a first base member that includes an adjustment for surrounding a fence. A pair of rods extend away from the first base member and are attached to a first rail. A second base member includes a pair of spaced apart holes through which each of the pair of rods passes. A locking lever is used to secure the second base member in position relative to the pair of rods. The second base member is mounted over the rods in either of two ways. Each side of the second base member provides an indication as to where and edge of the dado cut will occur in a board. The width of the dado cut is readily adjustable by urging the second member into the desired position and by actuating the locking lever.

  • Patent number: 7240704
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting a precision dado in a board includes a base member. The base member includes an adjustable clamp that surrounds a guide fence and which can move along the length of the fence. The fence is clamped to the board where desired for each dado. The base member includes a central area that is adapted to receive a dado guide bushing which is attached to a router having a router bit. The central area allows limited movement of the bushing and the router bit in the dado guide perpendicular to the fence. This allows the router bit, which is smaller than the width of the dado, to fully cut the dado in two passes. Setup of the dado guide to accommodate the width of a shelf to be inserted in the dado is described as is the precise location of the dado guide with respect to the board.

  • Patent number: 7207361
Abstract: An apparatus for use with a router that is adapted to secure a guide bushing to a base of the router includes a modified retaining nut that includes a plurality of extensions that extend radially away from the nut. Each extension includes a threaded hole that is adapted to receive a set screw. The retaining nut includes interior screw threads that cooperate with outside screw threads of the guide bushing. The guide bushing is disposed on one side of a hole provided in the base of the router and the retaining nut is lightly tightened secure the guide bushing in a recess provided in the router base. The set screws are then tightened and bear against the router base sufficient to urge the retaining nut away from the guide bushing thereby placing the screw thread of both under tension, while simultaneously engaging with the router base sufficient to retain the retaining nut in position relative to the router base.

  • Patent number: 7134373
Abstract: An apparatus for use with a table saw to decrease a clearance of a surface surrounding a saw blade includes a throat plate that is inserted into an elongated slot that is provided in the surface of the table saw. The throat plate includes an enlarged opening with a pair of spaced-apart rails that, together, are adapted receive a replaceable T-shaped center portion. The center portion is cut by the saw blade as the blade is raised from below the center portion resulting in a space around the blade having a clearance that approximates the kerf of the blade. Screws secure the center portion in the enlarged opening. A pair of cam screws secures the throat plate in the elongated slot. A side to side adjustable splitter is attached to the throat plate.

  • Patent number: 7082974
Abstract: An apparatus for cutting dados in two boards used to form a box joint includes a support member and a rear member adapted for securing the apparatus to a miter of a table saw or to another type of a woodworking power tool. An insert assembly in the support member includes an adjustable elliptical pin having an oval shaped cross-section. The elliptical pin is adapted for rotational placement into a dado cut and, subsequent to its rotation sufficient to remove all slack intermediate the pin and the boards followed by a tightening thereof, for securing the boards in place for subsequent dado cuts. An insert is placed in the insert assembly and is used to establish the proper offset from the elliptical pin to a dado blade or other type of a cutting instrument. Different sized elliptical pins and inserts are used with different sized dado blades or cutting instruments. The step sequence necessary to make all of the dado cuts in both boards is described.
