  • Publication number: 20170058300
Abstract: A method of processing spent grains by removing suspended solids from the spent grains to produce a stream low in suspended solids, directing the stream low in suspended solids to an anaerobic digester, converting at least some soluble compounds to biogas, and producing a biogas. A method of processing spent grain, by separating a first stream consisting of spent grains into a second stream and a third stream wherein the second stream contains a majority of suspended solids, separating the third stream into a fourth stream and a fifth stream wherein the fifth stream is lower in suspended solids than the fourth stream, directing the fifth stream to an anaerobic digester, and converting at least some organic compounds to a biogas. A method of fermenting a grain product.

  • Publication number: 20160115503
Abstract: A method of improving fermentation by increasing the bioavailability of components in stillage, using all or a portion of the hydrothermally treated stillage as a component of a media, and using the media for a process such as fermentation or biomass production. The metabolites and biomass recovered from the method above. Media including hydrothermally treating stillage obtained by heating the stillage to a temperature of 190° F. to 300° F. A method of improving fermentation by removing solids in stillage, hydrothermally treating the stillage by heating the stillage to a temperature of 190° F. to 300° F., using all or a portion of the stillage as a component of a media, and using the media for a process chosen from the group consisting of fermentation and biomass production.

  • Publication number: 20150191750
Abstract: A method of improving fermentation, by heating stillage to a temperature of 200 degrees F. to 350 degrees F. resulting in hydrothermally treated stillage, removing from the hydrothermally treated stillage some or all of a composition of suspended solids, dissolved solids, oil, proteins, fiber, or ash, removing some or all of the dissolved solids from the hydrothermally treated stillage by a mechanism of membranes, biological remediation, anaerobic digestion, electro-dialysis, ion exchange, evaporation, gas-stripping, distillation, solvent extraction, or precipitation, using all or a portion of the hydrothermally treated stillage as a component of a media, and using the media for a process of fermentation or biomass production. Metabolites, biomass, media, and hydrothermally treated stillage can be obtained and recovered by this method. Oil, a protein-containing solids fraction, stickwater and a de-oiled stickwater concentrate can be obtained and recovered by this method.

  • Publication number: 20140343259
Abstract: A protein product recovered from a fermentation process including a protein content of 45.0% or more calculated by weight of dry matter, a glycerol content of 1.0% or less calculated by weight of dry matter, and a mineral nutrient content of 6.0% or less calculated by weight of dry matter. A method for recovering a protein product by heating fermentation stillage to 200 degrees F.-350 degrees F., altering the physicochemical properties of the stillage to enable facile separation of the stillage, and separating a phase enriched in protein. Protein products, protein paste, high protein meal, and proteinaceous agglomerates recovered and formed.
