  • Patent number: 5659158
Abstract: A sound attenuating muffler useful with an internal combustion engine, preferably for marine applications, contains an insert comprising an arrangement of annular sound reflecting surfaces defining an inner chamber into which engine exhaust gases flow in a first direction and one or more directors to divert the axial flow of gases and sound waves in a second direction past these sound reflecting surfaces. As the sound waves are reflected off of these surfaces back into the muffler interior, attenuation of the sound is achieved. One or more additional inserts may be placed downstream from the first insert for additional sound attenuation. Each of the inserts may be in the form of discrete sound reflector rings or as a continuous helix. A method of assembling the component parts of the insert is also described.

  • Patent number: 4783097
Abstract: A decorative bar arrangement for attachment to the bed of a pick-up truck or like vehicle to resemble a professionally installed roll bar is disclosed. The decorative bar arrangement includes an upright U-shaped tubular assembly having a bight portion with vertically extending leg portions depending therefrom and a kicker U-shaped tubular assembly having a bight portion with angled leg portions depending therefrom. A hinge-fastening clamp is provided for positively securing, in a pinned manner and without deformation, the bight portions of the upright and kicker assemblies while permitting, prior to fastening, rotation of the leg portions of the kicker assembly into their desired positions. Additionally, a locking, universal swivel end clamp is provided for securing the kicker leg portions to the pick-up truck bed, and a telescoping clamp permits portions of the U-shaped tubular assembly to be dimensionally adjustable.

  • Patent number: 4779279
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method and means for stabilizing the frequency difference between the component frequency modes in the beam of a gas laser influenced by Zeeman splitting. Stabilizing the frequency difference makes constant the frequency of the beat signal obtained from heterodyning the component modes. Stabilization is obtained by accurately controlling the difference in frequency between the component frequency modes to provide a selected separation, preferably 250 KHz, with deviation maintained at less than two KHz. The difference in frequencies is controlled independently of the individual frequency or intensity of either of the component frequency modes, or of their relative position within the "Doppler broadened" spectral profile characteristic of the lasing material.

  • Patent number: 4682530
Abstract: An arming trigger unit having a retractable member for selectively retaining or releasing an arming wire of a store which retractable member is, after having been released, retained in its release position by a safety member. Further, such safety member engages a ring portion of the arming wire such that ejection of the ring portion is assisted when the arming wire is released. Such safety member is movable out of the position at which it retains the retractable member to permit a subsequent arming wire to be retained by the retractable member. A method of maintaining an actuating member for a store in a selected position to release an unarmed store by moving a safety member into a position whereat said actuating member is retained in such selected position. Further, the method of installing a store with respect to an aircraft by releasing a safety member to permit an actuating member to captively retain an arming wire.
