  • Publication number: 20110077689
Abstract: Methods and devices are provided for manipulating a vertebra. In one embodiment, a surgical device can include a frame configured to couple two or more surgical instruments attached to one or more vertebrae. Coupling the two or more surgical instruments together, the frame and/or at least one of the surgical instruments can be manipulated to move at least one of the surgical instruments, thereby effecting movement at least one of the vertebra or vertebrae to which the surgical instruments coupled to the frame are attached. In this way, the surgical device can be used to facilitate rotation of a vertebra relative to another vertebra to correct the angular relationship of the vertebrae.

  • Publication number: 20090228051
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide a system including an implant assembly and an instrument configured to work in conjunction to manipulate vertebral bodies to affect derotation. The implant assemblies include a removable attachment element that allows for the attachment of the instrument. The instrument is configured to attach to two implant assemblies that have been inserted bilaterally into a vertebral body. When the instrument is attached to the implant assemblies, forces applied to the instrument are translated and transferred to the implant assemblies and the vertebral body into which the implant assemblies have been inserted thereby providing a rotational force on the vertebral body.

  • Publication number: 20090228053
Abstract: Instruments and methods are provided for manipulating a bone anchor and a spinal fixation element. The instruments and methods disclosed herein are particularly suited to facilitate rotation of a bone anchor relative to another bone to correct the angular rotation of the vertebrae attached to the bone anchor. The instrument does not require the spinal fixation element to be inserted into the bone anchor prior to manipulation. The instrument further may be used in the insertion of the spinal fixation element into the bone anchor.

  • Publication number: 20080172062
Abstract: An instrument for manipulating a bone anchor and, in turn, a vertebral body to which the bone anchor is attached. The exemplary instrument includes an inner shaft, an anchor engagement mechanism, and an outer sleeve disposed about the inner shaft. The exemplary instrument may be employed to manipulate a bone anchor for implantation or adjustment. The exemplary instrument may also be use engage a bone anchor implanted in a vertebra and maneuver the bone anchor and the vertebra by manipulating the instrument. For example, the exemplary instrument may be employed to rotate the bone anchor and the vertebra relative to other vertebrae and thereby by correct the angular orientation of the vertebra. The instrument, when employed in the exemplary manner, thus may be used to effect segmental correction of the angular orientation of the vertebrae of the spine.

  • Patent number: 6526614
Abstract: A modular, portable and lightweight ramp of interlocking panels is used to provide a sloping surface between surfaces of differing heights. A first panel has a proximate end and a distal end and at its proximate end there is a tongue for connecting this first panel to a groove on an end cap, which rests on the higher surface. A second panel has a proximate and distal end and at its proximate end there is a tongue for connecting the second panel to a groove on the distal end of the first panel. One or more additional panels may be included in the ramp. The most distal panel rests on the base surface at its distal end. A distal end cap has a tongue that connects with a groove in the distal end of the most distal panel to provide a transition from the ramp to the base surface.
