Patent number: 7326885Abstract: A hotplate with a stainless steel top plate to support a vessel. The stainless steel top plate has an upper surface with a substantially centrally located depression having a depth and area generally sufficient to absorb upward crowning of the top plate when heated. A heating unit is in a heat transfer relation with the stainless steel top plate, and a base unit is connected to the heating plate assembly; however, the base unit is not fastened directly to the stainless steel top plate, so that the stainless steel top plate can expand more uniformly when heated.Type: GrantFiled: May 2, 2006Date of Patent: February 5, 2008Assignee: Barnstead/Thermolyne CorporationInventors: Mark D. Lockwood, Peter Riniker, James R. Edwards

Patent number: 6356963Abstract: An apparatus handles long latency interrupt signals in a computer which posts I/O write operations. The apparatus includes a posting buffer for posting write operations and circuitry for ensuring that End-of-Interrupt (EOI) write operations (and other interrupt controller directed I/0 operations) are properly synchronized to prevent false interrupts from reaching the processor. Upon receipt of the EOI write operation, the apparatus verifies that the posting buffer is empty before it imposes a pre-determined delay to ensure sufficient time for the cleared the interrupt signal to be transmitted over the interrupt serial bus. Next, the apparatus checks the interrupt serial bus for activities. If the interrupt serial bus is idle, the EOI write operation is issued to the interrupt controller. Alternatively, the apparatus waits until the serial bus becomes inactive for two back-to-back cycles before allowing the EOI write operation to be issued to the interrupt controller.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 1999Date of Patent: March 12, 2002Assignee: Compaq Computer CorporationInventors: David J. Maguire, James R. Edwards

Patent number: 6273134Abstract: A sterilizer valve including a valve body with an inlet, an outlet, a vent, and a centerbore intersecting the inlet, outlet and vent. The valve further includes a valve stem having a shot chamber for holding a volume of sterilizing fluid, a fill passage having one end in fluid communication with the shot chamber and a second end intersecting the exterior surface at a fill port. The valve stem also has fluid communicating paths extending through the interior and disposed in an external surface of the valve stem. The valve stem is rotatably disposed in the centerbore of the valve body to selectively fluidly connect the shot chamber with the vent through the fluid communication paths upon the valve stem having different rotational positions with respect to the valve body.Type: GrantFiled: November 1, 1999Date of Patent: August 14, 2001Assignee: Barnstead/Thermolyne CorporationInventors: James R. Edwards, Francis J. Lahey, Kerry W. Leppert
