  • Patent number: 7919731
Abstract: A stirring hot plate for simultaneously heating and stirring a mixture includes a phase controlled motor that spins magnets which couple to, and thereby spin, a stir bar within the mixture. In addition to spinning the magnets, the motor includes an operational mode in which the motor is rapidly braked thereby quickly spinning down the stir bar. The stirring hot plate also includes a visual indicator to the user that the platform is hot-to-the-touch that is especially effective when the stirring hot plate is not in use.

  • Patent number: 7326885
Abstract: A hotplate with a stainless steel top plate to support a vessel. The stainless steel top plate has an upper surface with a substantially centrally located depression having a depth and area generally sufficient to absorb upward crowning of the top plate when heated. A heating unit is in a heat transfer relation with the stainless steel top plate, and a base unit is connected to the heating plate assembly; however, the base unit is not fastened directly to the stainless steel top plate, so that the stainless steel top plate can expand more uniformly when heated.

  • Patent number: 6356963
Abstract: An apparatus handles long latency interrupt signals in a computer which posts I/O write operations. The apparatus includes a posting buffer for posting write operations and circuitry for ensuring that End-of-Interrupt (EOI) write operations (and other interrupt controller directed I/0 operations) are properly synchronized to prevent false interrupts from reaching the processor. Upon receipt of the EOI write operation, the apparatus verifies that the posting buffer is empty before it imposes a pre-determined delay to ensure sufficient time for the cleared the interrupt signal to be transmitted over the interrupt serial bus. Next, the apparatus checks the interrupt serial bus for activities. If the interrupt serial bus is idle, the EOI write operation is issued to the interrupt controller. Alternatively, the apparatus waits until the serial bus becomes inactive for two back-to-back cycles before allowing the EOI write operation to be issued to the interrupt controller.

  • Patent number: 6273134
Abstract: A sterilizer valve including a valve body with an inlet, an outlet, a vent, and a centerbore intersecting the inlet, outlet and vent. The valve further includes a valve stem having a shot chamber for holding a volume of sterilizing fluid, a fill passage having one end in fluid communication with the shot chamber and a second end intersecting the exterior surface at a fill port. The valve stem also has fluid communicating paths extending through the interior and disposed in an external surface of the valve stem. The valve stem is rotatably disposed in the centerbore of the valve body to selectively fluidly connect the shot chamber with the vent through the fluid communication paths upon the valve stem having different rotational positions with respect to the valve body.

  • Patent number: 6186128
Abstract: An apparatus for the treatment of gases in a positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system, in an internal combustion engine, is provided with a housing defining a gas treatment chamber. At least one gas filtering medium is disposed in the treatment chamber, and the gases from the engine crankcase are passed through the gas filtering medium in the treatment chamber, before the gases are routed into the air intake portion of the engine. In addition, the gases, after passage through the gas filtering medium, are passed through an ionization device.

  • Patent number: 6154798
Abstract: A method for hot docking and hot undocking a portable computer and a docking station. The portable computer and docking station are physically coupled via a shared PCI bus and an expansion connector. Varying length pins in the expansion connector generate docking and undocking handshaking signals used by microcontrollers in the portable computer and docking station. The portable computer and docking station are functionally connected via low onresistance switches located in the portable computer. Following a docking event, closure of the switches connects the portion of the shared PCI bus in the docking station with the PCI bus in the portable computer. When the switches are open, the PCI busses are functionally isolated. Both the portable computer and the docking station also include a local arbiter for arbitrating and granting bus control requests from devices coupled to the shared PCI bus.
