  • Patent number: 5038454
Abstract: A method for producing an integral bottle/collar combination for use in a package for storing and dispensing potentially dangerous material such as medicament tablets. The package is resistant to opening by children yet readily openable by adults. The process includes a step of injection molding a polymeric part having a finish portion, a preform portion, and a flange portion. The flange portion has at least one integrally formed socket having a resiliently deformable pushtab connected by a hinge. The preform portion of the injection molded part is blow molded into the shape of the bottle. The hingedly connected pushtab is then folded into its in-use position.

  • Patent number: 4948002
Abstract: A package for storing and dispensing potentially dangerous materials, such as medicament tablets or the like, said package being resistant to opening by children but readily openable by adults, particularly adults having impaired manual dexterity of their hands and/or fingers. In a particularly preferred embodiment, the package comprises a bottle, a collar which is secured in place over the uppermost portion of the bottle and a closure which is secured to the finish portion of the bottle by means of complementary screw threads. The collar preferably includes a pair of spring-like pushtabs containing vertical extensions which engage interlocking teeth on the innermost surface of the closure skirt when the closure is fully assembled onto the bottle. To remove the closure, the opposed pushtabs must be manually depressed prior to applying unscrewing torque to the closure to disengage the pushtab extensions from the interlocking teeth on the closure.

  • Patent number: 4583652
Abstract: An improved safety closure device and a method for making same are described. A cylindrical closure element adapted to close the mouth of a bottle or the like by frictional engagement with the interior facing surface of the mouth is joined via a cap portion to a cylindrical retainer collar, extending substantially coaxial with the closure element, by an intercoupling means comprising a tabbed tear strip and a tether strip. The tear strip and the tether strip are integrally formed in a helical configuration extending from the closure element to the collar. The tether strip and tear strip are joined by a pair of frangible webs of a preselected thickness which permit the tear strip to be manually removed. The collar and intercoupling section, including the cap portion thereof, are molded as a unitary structure. The closure element is formed as a separate unitary structure and is secured mechanically to the intercoupling means preferably by a snap-fit means about the periphery of one end of the closure element.

  • Patent number: 4573602
Abstract: A molded safety closure device and a method for making same are described. A cylindrical closure element adapted to close the mouth of a bottle or the like by frictional engagement with the interior facing surface of the mouth is supported on the bottle by a cylindrical retainer collar extending substantially coaxial with the closure element. The retainer collar is connected to the closure element by intercoupling means comprising a tabbed tear strip and a tether strip. The tear strip and the tether strip are integrally formed in a helical configuration extending one or more turns from the closure element to the collar. The tether strip and tear strip are joined by a pair of frangible webs of a preselected thickness which permit the tear strip to be manually removed. The collar and intercoupling section are molded as a unitary structure.

  • Patent number: 4474302
Abstract: A molded tethered safety closure device for use on bottles containing pressurized liquids such as champagne or sparkling wines comprising a cork or closure element and a retainer collar joined by an intercoupling section. The intercoupling section is comprised of a tabbed tear strip and a tether strip that are integrally formed in a helical configuration extending in a plurality of turns from the cork to the collar. The tether strip and the tear strip are interconnected by a pair of grooved frangible webs that can be torn by pulling on the tear strip. This allows the tear strip to be manually removed from the intercoupling section. Following removal of the tear strip, the helical tether strip interconnects the cork and the retainer collar, thus enabling the cork to be released from the bottle without flying free.
