  • Patent number: 7042130
Abstract: An electrical machine using a plurality of separate teeth that can be axially inserted into a stator ring or armature after receiving a bobbin or form wound coil. Each tooth contains a primary locating structure and a secondary locating structure which respectively set the radial position and the angular position of the teeth in a stator ring. This construction can also be used with internal motor armatures. The primary and secondary locating structures have a size equal to or smaller than the portion of the tooth that holds the coil. This allows insertion of a pre-wound coil over these features without interference. The use of separate stator or armature teeth that are press fitted into the stator ring or armature allows the use of coil types that could not be inserted into a one piece stator or armature and tooth materials with optimum magnetic properties.

  • Patent number: 5652493
Abstract: A switched reluctance d.c. motor having a plurality stators has been disclosed. Each stator comprises phase windings for energizing a set of stator poles. The stator poles are distributed about the circumference of the stator yoke. Two phases activated in succession are associated with distinct ones of the plurality of stators. The motor of the present invention operates under a wide range of rotational speeds while reducing the switching losses and audible noise in the rotor and stator iron.

  • Patent number: 5111095
Abstract: A switched reluctance motor driven by a polyphase source includes a stator having a yoke and a plurality of evenly spaced salient poles distributed about the yoke and a rotor mounted for rotation relative to the stator having a plurality of unevenly spaced salient poles. The geometry of the stator and rotor is such that each of the stator poles is separated from an adjacent stator pole by an angle .alpha..sub.1 and the poles of the rotor are alternately spaced from adjacent rotor poles by angles .alpha..sub.1 and .alpha..sub.2. Windings associated with the poles of the stator are connected to be driven by a polyphase source such that two phases of the source are energized simultaneously. The simultaneous energization of two phases results in pairs of adjacent stator poles being magnetized with opposite polarity, thereby forming a magnetic circuit whose path includes only the portion of the yoke bridging the two adjacent stator poles of a pair.

  • Patent number: 5079562
Abstract: A multi-band antenna is adapted to receive signals in the AM/FM bands and to receive and transmit signals in a significantly higher frequency band such as that used for cellular telephone. An AM/FM band antenna is formed of a tubular rod, and a higher frequency band antenna is formed using a centerfed coaxial dipole mounted on top of and coaxially with the AM/FM antenna. The dipole is fed by a coaxial rod attached to a coaxial cable extending through the AM/FM antenna. A cylindrical choke is disposed about the coaxial rod and is spaced a predetermined distance from the dipole antenna to reduce coupling between the AM/FM antenna and the high-frequency antenna. The choke functions to position the input impedance of the high-frequency antenna at the base of the choke in a manner so that a short matching transformer may be used at the base of the choke for connection to the coaxial cable.

  • Patent number: 5015903
Abstract: A motor structure and energization scheme provides a high efficiency electronically commutated reluctance motor that is characterized by less iron loss than conventional switched reluctance motors. The motor operates without the reversal of the flow of flux in the stator. Also, the flux switching frequency in the stator is minimized. By eliminating flux reversals and minimizing the flux switching frequency, the electronically commutated reluctance motor is operable over a wide range of speeds with improved efficiency. Structurally, the stator includes unevenly spaced poles which are grouped into pairs separated by a space related to the even spacing of the poles on the rotor. Adjacent pairs of poles on the stator are separated by a spacing which is not equal to the spacing between the poles of a pair. To provide for rotation of the rotor, each pair of poles on the stator is polarized to form poles of opposite polarity such that a magnetic circuit joins the two adjacent poles of the pair.

  • Patent number: 4903323
Abstract: A communication system having a base station and a number of field units employs a virtual hold technique and a self-testing technique. In the virtual hold technique, when a field unit is put on hold, the communication channel previously used by the field unit is released for use elsewhere in the system, thereby increasing the efficiency of the system. In the self-test technique, a test signal is transmitted to the field unit where it is applied to the earpiece of a handset so as to generate sound waves which are picked up by the microphone in the mouthpiece of the handset and transmitted back to the base station for comparison with the original test signal. In this manner, the entire communication loop is tested without the need for human intervention, and in particular without the need for a person to be present at the field unit. The self-test technique improves the reliability of the system.

  • Patent number: 4883999
Abstract: A motor structure and energization scheme provides a high efficiency electronically commutated reluctance motor that is characterized by less iron losses than conventional switched reluctance motors. Preferably, the motor operates without the reversal of the flow of flux in the member of the motor supporting the motor windings (e.g., the stator). Also, the flux switching frequency in the first member is reduced and preferably minimized. By eliminating flux reversals and minimizing the flux switching frequency, the electronically commutated reluctance motor is operable over a wide range of speeds with improved efficiency. Structurally, first and second members of the motor are mounted for relative movement. The first member includes unevenly spaced poles, whereas the second member includes evenly spaced poles. The poles of the first member are grouped into pairs separated by a space related to the even spacing of the poles on the second member.

  • Patent number: 4725846
Abstract: The present invention is a high frequency antenna for use in vehicular radio communications which is disguised to resemble a low frequency antenna of the type ordinarily used on vehicles to receive the standard AM-FM broadcast bands. In the preferred embodiment, the antenna consists of three tubular conductive sections that are held in spaced relationship to one another by the use of insulators, which insulate the sections from each other.

  • Patent number: 4110645
Abstract: An improved yet relatively inexpensive motor is provided by mounting commercially-available magnets together with pole pieces to the interior surfaces of the housing of a motor. The pole pieces are then shaped in part, in situ, so as to form a cylindrical space between the pole pieces. A rotatable armature assembly and a stationary, magnetically-conductive core member are mounted within the cylindrical space formed by the shaped pole pieces with the armature assembly being radially-spaced from and disposed between the pole pieces on the one hand and the core member on the other hand.
