Patent number: 12249435Abstract: Carbide-based fuel assembly includes outer structural member of ceramic matrix composite material (e.g., SiC—SiC composite), insulation layer of porous refractory ceramic material (e.g., zirconium carbide with open-cell foam structure or fibrous zirconium carbide), and interior structural member of refractory ceramic-graphite composite material (e.g., zirconium carbide-graphite or niobium carbide-graphite). Spacer structures between various layers provide a defined and controlled spacing relationship. A fuel element bundle positioned between support meshes includes a plurality of distributively arranged fuel elements or a solid, unitary fuel element with coolant channels, each having a fuel composition including high assay, low enriched uranium (HALEU).Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 2023Date of Patent: March 11, 2025Assignee: BWXT Nuclear Energy, Inc.Inventors: Eric A. Patent number: 7206575Abstract: A system includes a remote station and a local station having a receiver. The receiver operates in an unlocked state corresponding to its best lock frequency (BLF). The local station derives data indicative of a ratio of the BLF to a reference frequency of the receiver, and telemeters the data to the remote station. The remote station estimates the BLF based on (i) the telemetered data, and (ii) a predetermined estimate of the reference frequency.Type: GrantFiled: December 12, 2003Date of Patent: April 17, 2007Assignee: The Johns Hopkins UniversityInventors: Karl B. Fielhauer, James R. Jensen

Patent number: 6650279Abstract: A method and apparatus for obtaining measurements, on a spacecraft that employs a transceiver, at intervals that are shorter than the telemetry frame duration for use in correcting ground-based Doppler measurements so as to remove the effects of drift in the spacecraft oscillator frequency reference. Samples of navigation counters on the spacecraft that supply information that may be used to compare the uplink frequency with the downlink frequency at the spacecraft are triggered at intervals that are shorter than the duration of a telemetry frame; the samples are then included in a telemetry frame and are time tagged after they are received on the ground; the time tagged samples are then used to calculate precise two-way Doppler measurements.Type: GrantFiled: September 12, 2002Date of Patent: November 18, 2003Assignee: The Johns Hopkins UniversityInventors: James R. Jensen, Matthew J. Reinhart, Karl B. Fielhauer, John E. Penn

Patent number: 5516034Abstract: A stackable, open top, paperboard, produce tray for holding and transporting articles that require considerable venting, The tray has side and end walls joined to and extending upwardly from side and end edges of a bottom wall, and the end wall are provided with aligned vent openings that accommodate the passage of air through the tray in a direction longitudinally of the tray to maximize the venting of articles in the tray. Also, the side walls of the tray are provide with internal cavities adapted to receive portions of star wire stacking wires.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 1995Date of Patent: May 14, 1996Assignee: Jefferson Smurfit CorporationInventors: James R. Jensen, Robert C. Olsen

Patent number: 4410056Abstract: An hydraulic tilt system and method for its use with a cab pivotally mounted on a motor vehicle frame. An hydraulic piston-cylinder assembly pivotally connects between the cab and the frame. A remote control station has an hydraulic pump, a reservoir, and a control for operating the pump to tilt the cab. Hydraulic lines connect the control station with the piston-cylinder assembly. Check valves in the hydraulic lines stop the tilting motion of the cab in case of loss of hydraulic pressure. A controlled return free-fall valve is also disposed in the hydraulic lines to selectively restrict the flow of hydraulic fluid.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 1981Date of Patent: October 18, 1983Assignee: PACCAR Inc.Inventors: Virgil E. Pound, James R. Jensen, Albert C. Zwicky

Patent number: 4397478Abstract: A low-frequency-rate spring suspension system for a wheeled vehicle. A metal leaf spring has one end shackled directly to a bracket on the vehicle frame and a central portion secured to an axle. The second end of the leaf spring is spaced from the frame with guide means limiting lateral movement thereof while enabling vertical and longitudinal movement thereof. An air bag of an air spring is secured to the leaf spring in between the second end and the central portion and is also secured to the frame, the air bag being offset from the axle. The height of the air bag is controlled by a valve and a lever, so that the second end does not come into contact with the frame except under extraordinary circumstances. The leaf spring positions the air bag relative to the axle and provides roll resistance, while the air spring carries load to the frame in parallel with the forward section of the leaf spring, and no vertical load is placed on the leaf spring through the rear bracket.Type: GrantFiled: April 3, 1981Date of Patent: August 9, 1983Assignee: PACCAR Inc.Inventors: James R. Jensen, David W. Deacon

Patent number: 4349147Abstract: A tray formed of a unitary blank of foldable paperboard for storing food articles such as mushrooms and the like includes a locking tab formed in the side flaps for interengaging a related gate flap disposed in the side walls of the tray. A stacking tab is also formed in the side flaps joined integrally to a partial top cover panel.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 1981Date of Patent: September 14, 1982Assignee: Container Corporation of AmericaInventor: James R. Jensen

Patent number: 4339036Abstract: A venting arrangement for a container having telescoping tray and cover members with aligned openings. The tray member includes a pair of lock tabs formed in a side wall and adapted for movement outwardly from the plane thereof to provide vent openings therein. The tray member also includes a pair of access tabs formed in the side wall to provide openings for finger access to the lock tabs. The cover member has a cover slot consisting of a first section and a second section which are foldable at an angle to each other. The lower edges of the second section are disposed within the side wall vent openings and are securely engageable with the lock tabs to maintain the cover flap in open position.Type: GrantFiled: December 18, 1980Date of Patent: July 13, 1982Assignee: Container Corporation of AmericaInventor: James R. Patent number: 4127103Abstract: Heat energy as from solar rays is collected by units including transparent plates covering a completely liquid filled chamber which has a heat absorbing layer as the internal surface of the chamber. The liquid is transparent and capable of absorbing, storing and/or transporting the heat energy. In one embodiment, the heat is removed to a storage tank from many such collector units by pumping. The system can allow draining of the collector when heat collection conditions do not prevail. In another embodiment of collector, the heat is transferred through the heat absorbing walls and the liquid medium acts mainly as a heat receiver and storing facility. A compartmentalized tank can be employed to enhance heat collection efficiency.Type: GrantFiled: December 21, 1976Date of Patent: November 28, 1978Inventors: Benno E. O. Klank, James R. Jensen
