  • Patent number: 7559943
Abstract: A bone screw arrangement including a retainer and an anchor. The retainer includes a first receiving region configured for receipt of a connecting rod, and a second receiving region configured for receipt of the anchor. The second receiving region includes an upper socket and a lower socket. The arrangement includes an interface that transfers torque applied to the retainer, to the anchor for securing the anchor to a bone element.

  • Publication number: 20080114382
Abstract: A system for ligating a uterine artery in a patient generally includes a suture transfer tool, suture transfer darts, and one or more sutures. The suture transfer tool includes an upper jaw that is pivotally joined to a lower jaw. The lower jaw of the tool includes a number of suture capturing pins. The suture transfer darts are configured to be tissue piercing and are positionable within the suture capturing pins. Each end of the suture is connected to a suture transfer dart. When operating the tool, the suture transfer darts pierce through the tissue to either side of a patient's cardinal ligament, which contains the uterine artery, and simultaneously present an end of the suture to either side of the cardinal ligament. As such, the suture is in an open loop configuration about the cardinal ligament and can be tied tight to the ligament to occlude the uterine artery.

  • Publication number: 20080009914
Abstract: Implantable medical devices to relieve problems associated with incontinence and related pelvic disorders and methods of implanting same are disclosed. Stimulation leads for placement in the pelvic floor have fixation mechanisms for stabilization of the stimulation electrodes to inhibit dislodgement from a selected stimulation site. In certain embodiments, the fixation mechanisms encourage fibrosis about the lead to chronically stabilize the position of the stimulation lead and/or stimulation electrode(s). In certain embodiments, the fixation mechanisms are isolated from body tissue during routing of the stimulation lead through a tissue pathway and then exposed to body tissue to encourage fibrosis.

  • Patent number: 7297162
Abstract: An expandable implant having a helical body and first and second securing pieces. Ends of the helical body are connected to the first and second end pieces. The first and second end pieces can be rotated relative to one another to expand the implant from a first dimension to a selected second dimension. The implant further includes a locking arrangement to maintain the implant at the selected second dimension.

  • Patent number: 7255703
Abstract: A surgical driver for use with an implant, having a shaft with proximal and distal ends and an attachment piece with proximal and distal ends. The surgical driver including a coupling arrangement that couples the shaft and the attachment piece relative to one another. The coupling arrangement includes a recess formed at the proximal end of the attachment piece and has at least one retaining member for reversibly engaging the shaft. The coupling arrangement is adapted to accommodate interaction between the surgical driver and an implant so that variable-axis torque on the implant is minimized.

  • Patent number: 7094257
Abstract: An expandable intervertebral implant having an external member and an internal member. The implant includes a locking arrangement having a first interlocking teeth structure formed on the external member and a second interlocking teeth structure formed on the internal member. The interlocking teeth structures of the external and internal members have engagement surfaces arranged in a non-perpendicular orientation relative to the direction of implant expansion. The locking arrangement is configured such that walls of the internal member are pulled or flexed toward the walls of the external member when compressive forces are applied to the implant.
