Patent number: 8164966Abstract: Circuitry for determining timing characteristics, for example, access time, setup time, hold time, recovery time and removal time, of as-manufactured digital circuit elements, such as latches, flip-flops and memory cells. Each element under test is embodied in variable-loop-path ring oscillator circuitry that includes multiple ring-oscillator loop paths, each of which differs from the other(s) in terms of inclusion and exclusion of ones of a data input and a data output of the element under test. Each loop path is caused to oscillate at each of a plurality of frequencies, and data regarding the oscillation frequencies is used to determine one or more timing characteristics of the element under test. The variable-loop-path ring oscillator circuitry can be incorporated into a variety of test systems, including automated testing equipment, and built-in self test structures and can be used in performing model-to-hardware correlation of library cells that include testable as-manufactured digital circuit elements.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 2008Date of Patent: April 24, 2012Assignee: ASIC NorthInventors: Stephen J. Patent number: 7364389Abstract: A deburring tool includes a blade having a cutting head portion, an anchor portion, and a retention spring. An arbor is adapted to removably mount the blade such that the head portion of the blade is adapted to be elevated a predetermined distance from the arbor in an unstressed condition of the blade. The blade is sufficiently resiliently yieldable such that the head portion of the blade can move inwardly relative to the arbor during deburring operations. A holder is adapted to mount the arbor and an adjustment member adapted to operatively engage the anchor portion of the blade. The anchor portion of the blade is adapted to move in response to adjustment of the adjustment member in a direction substantially opposite that of the head portion and flex to elevate the head portion relative to the arbor for deburring operations or recess the head portion relative to the arbor.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2006Date of Patent: April 29, 2008Inventor: James R. Publication number: 20030118473Abstract: The present invention relates to a delivery system and a treatment protocol designed to accurately and reliably deliver ozone to biological liquids or to other liquids containing reactive solutes or particles. To effect the accurate delivery of ozone to such liquids, ozone is delivered to the liquid via a gas permeable interface, under controlled conditions, while the liquid passes along the opposite side of the interface. In one variant, ozone is interfaced with the liquid via a specially configured ozone-permeable interface constructed of silicone and/or any of its polymers or congeners.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 1, 2002Publication date: June 26, 2003Inventors: Gerard V. Patent number: 5822576Abstract: The detection and selection of the appropriate branch target address in a branch history table in super scalar microprocessor is simplified by reducing the complexity of the branch history table selection logic and providing a structure which is extendible to larger instruction fetch block sizes. This is accomplished by introducing a branch pattern field into the branch history table entry which indicates the presence of other branches (branches not defined by the current entry) within the instruction fetch block.Type: GrantFiled: March 26, 1997Date of Patent: October 13, 1998Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert M. Patent number: 5634119Abstract: A computer processing system includes a first memory that stores instructions belonging to a first instruction set architecture and a second memory that stores instructions belonging to a second instruction set architecture. An instruction buffer is coupled to the first and second memories, for storing instructions that are executed by a processor unit. The system operates in one of two modes. In a first mode, instructions are fetched from the first memory into the instruction buffer according to data stored in a first branch history table. In the second mode, instructions are fetched from the second memory into the instruction buffer according to data stored in a second branch history table. The first instruction set architecture may be system level instructions and the second instruction set architecture may be millicode instructions that, for example, define a complex system level instruction and/or emulate a third instruction set architecture.Type: GrantFiled: January 6, 1995Date of Patent: May 27, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Philip G. Emma, Joshua W. Knight, III, Thomas R. Puzak, James R. Robinson, A. James Van Norstrand, Jr.

Patent number: 5615354Abstract: A method and system for controlling references to system storage. Milli-code mode provides a flexible technique for overriding storage controls associated with referencing system storage of a data processing system. The storage controls to be overridden are not replaced and therefore, a restore of the previous contents of those controls is not necessary. This allows for an increase in system performance and an increase in the efficiency and flexibility of the system. In addition to the above, a system request instruction is provided, which enables flexibility in the manner in which system requests are executed. The flexibility of the system request instruction reduces the number of instructions needed to perform system requests.Type: GrantFiled: June 7, 1995Date of Patent: March 25, 1997Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Ronald F. Hill, Donald W. McCauley, Stephen J. Nadas, James R. Robinson

Patent number: 5490884Abstract: This invention is directed to a method and system for extracting a solute from a fluid or a dense gas using a porous membrane. The invention includes providing a porous membrane having opposite sides in a module under pressure, with the membrane serving as a barrier interface between a fluid and a dense gas. The dense gas is introduced into the module on one side of the membrane and the fluid is introduced on the opposite side of the membrane. At least one of the fluid and dense gas contains a solute to be extracted, and the other one of the fluid and dense gas serves as an extracting medium. The dense gas has a density of at least about 0.5 g/cc and is essentially immiscible in the fluid so as to provide two phases. The process is conducted with the pressure on both sides of the membrane in the module being essentially the same, and the solute is extracted across the membrane as driven by the concentration gradient of the solute across the membrane.Type: GrantFiled: September 9, 1994Date of Patent: February 13, 1996Assignees: Tastemaker, Separation Equipment Technologies, Inc., Mark Sims, S.F.E., James R. Patent number: 5446913Abstract: A method and system for enhancing processing efficiency in a data processing system which includes multiple scalar instruction processors and a vector instruction processor. An ordered sequence of intermixed scalar and vector instructions is processed in a nonsequential order by coupling those instructions to selected processors. As each instruction is finished an indication of that state is stored within a finish instruction array. The first vector instruction within the ordered sequence is initiated within the vector instruction processor only after an indication that each scalar instruction preceding the first vector instruction is finished. A vector advance signal is generated by the vector instruction processor each time processing of a vector instruction is initiated.Type: GrantFiled: December 16, 1992Date of Patent: August 29, 1995Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Norman C.
