Patent number: 8628834Abstract: A method for fabricating an insulated system such as, for instance, an insulated window unit, includes introducing an insulating material between adjacent walls and stabilizing the system. Particulate insulators preferably are introduced in the system by filling an expanded internal volume. Stabilization of the system can be carried out by reducing the pressure within the internal volume. A stabilized insulated system is fabricated by introducing an insulating material between adjacent walls and stabilizing the system. Also disclosed are processes and equipment for filling insulated systems, such as fenestration units, and insulated systems comprising mixed insulating materials.Type: GrantFiled: May 19, 2008Date of Patent: January 14, 2014Assignee: Cabot CorporationInventors: Andries J. Du Plessis, Georg Rudolf Gertner, James R. Satterwhite, Daniel P. Olsen

Patent number: 6088978Abstract: A panel connection system provides lateral expansion of panel members in a skylight and vertical glazing arrangement while at the same time affording a secure connection. In a preferred embodiment, the connecting members provide a slidable seal arrangement so as to substantially reduce entry by the elements. The connecting system is readily adapted to be used in conjunction with various types of support systems for the skylight and vertical glazing arrangements.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 1998Date of Patent: July 18, 2000Assignee: Super Sky Products, Inc.Inventor: James R. Patent number: 5519329Abstract: A circuit tracer for determinating the location of a conductor, such as a wire, which is either an open or closed circuit, and which may lie underground. The tracer includes a transmitter which is connected to the conductor, a hand-held probe, and a receiver which is connected to the probe. The probe has three different sensors: an electric field sensor, primarily for locating the terminus of an open-ended conductor or for distinguishing such a wire in a bundled cable of wires; a differential electric field sensor, for determining the direction to and location of an open-ended conductor located above ground; and an inductive sensor for determining the direction to and location of a current-carrying conductor, including an open-ended conductor lying below ground. A switch selectively provides the output from one of the sensors to the receiver unit, which determines the magnitude of any signal based upon the direction the probe is pointing.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1994Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Assignee: Minnesota Mining and Manufacturing CompanyInventor: James R. Patent number: 4942365Abstract: A circuit and method for detecting and determining the magnitude of either a synchronous frequency signal whose phase relationship to a reference signal is known or unknown or a non-synchronous signal near the reference frequency is based on using a pair of synchronous detectors one of which develops a COS Output and the other of which develops a SIN Output. The input sides of both synchronous detectors are connected to receive the signal being processed. The synchronous detector which develops the COS Output is connected to a first reference signal and the other synchronous detector input is connected to a second reference signal having a plus 90 degree phase relationship with the first reference signal. The COS Output and SIN Output are fed through a chopper analog switch controlled by a chop frequency and then to a RMS detector which develops the desired output.Type: GrantFiled: July 24, 1989Date of Patent: July 17, 1990Assignee: Teltest Electronics Laboratories, Inc.Inventor: James R.
