  • Patent number: 6613721
Abstract: A colloidal suspension has a metal core surrounded by a surfactant. The colloidal suspension is about 0.5 micron to about 3-4 microns in diameter. The colloidal suspension acts as a lubricant and protects surfaces in rolling and/or sliding contact. When mixed with a lubricant, the colloidal suspension increases the operating life of the lubricated item. The colloidal suspension preferably is tin or bismuth nano-phase particles encased in a surfactant, preferably oleyl sarcosinate, N-coco sarcosinate, sodium sulfonate, petroleum sulfonate, or octadecenyl amine.

    Assignee: The Timken Company
Inventors: Carl F. Kernizan, James R. Spence
  • Patent number: 4302216
Abstract: An amino methylenesulfonic acid comprising the reaction product of an amine compound (eg) a substituted succinimide containing free primary or secondary nitrogen atoms or a compound of the formula R.sub.1 NH--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 NH.sub.2 or RNH.sub.2 wherein R and R.sub.1 have 1 to 25 carbon atoms; a compound of the formula ##STR1## wherein R.sub.2 is a hydrogen or a methyl group and R.sub.3 is a hydrogen or an alkyl group having from about 1 to 7 carbon atoms and sulfur dioxide; which can be alternatively reacted with a polyfunctional crosslinking agent; and mixtures of the amino-methylene sulfonic acid with a nitrogen compound adduct of a maleic anhydride olefin copolymer.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 25, 1980
Date of Patent: November 24, 1981
    Assignee: Standard Oil Company (Indiana)
