  • Patent number: 8473729
Abstract: An approach for managing the privacy and disclosure of location information associated with a computer system. For one aspect, a request is received from a requestor for a location property associated with a location of a computer system. It is then determined whether a privacy preference associated with the requestor has been specified. If not, a user may be prompted to supply privacy preferences associated with the requester. The privacy preferences are then applied to determine whether or not to provide the requested information. A user setting, such as a basic input-output system memory location setting, may also be implemented to enable and/or disable location-aware computing.

  • Publication number: 20090171995
Abstract: Embodiments of a system for selecting a media file comprising a plurality of media, selecting one or more other media as alternate media, generating metadata specifying the one or more alternate media, and associating the metadata and the one or more alternate media to enable the media file to be alternately presented. Other embodiments are described.

  • Patent number: 7321925
Abstract: An application service provider provides to remote networked computers service sessions using one of a plurality of similarly functioning software applications residing on different servers with different unique network addresses. To request a service session, a remote computer transmits a “probe request” to a unique network address associated with the service provider. A load balancer then assigns one of the servers to provide the service. The service provider then sends back to the remote computer a “probe response” providing the unique network address of the assigned server. Thereafter, for packet-based messages sent by the remote computer that are part of the service session, the messages are addressed to the unique network address of the assigned server. “Probe request” and “probe response” messages may also be used during the course of a service session for fault tolerance.

  • Patent number: 7213057
Abstract: A method for configuring a mobile computer based on location. The method including determining a change in location of the mobile computer, scoring a current location signature for the mobile computer against previously stored location profiles having location signatures to obtain a highest scoring location profile, and determining whether the highest scoring location profile exceeds a threshold. If the highest scoring location profile exceeds the threshold, then the computer settings for the highest scoring location profile are activated on the mobile computer. If the highest scoring location profile does not exceed the threshold, a new location profile is generated and stored for the current location signature. The new location profile is then activated on the mobile computer.

  • Patent number: 6895002
Abstract: A system is described for providing a single telephone number for geographically dispersed telephony service subscribers. The system includes an automatic call distributor (ACD) coupled to receive incoming calls from a public switched telephone network (PSTN) and a plurality of gateways coupled between the ACD and the Internet. Each one of the gateways is assigned to service a defined group of subscribers. The ACD selectively interconnects an incoming telephone call from the PSTN to an appropriate one of the gateways based on at least a portion of a setup message field identifying a telephone number forwarding the incoming telephone call.

  • Publication number: 20020188862
Abstract: A system is described for load balancing requests dispatched from Web pages containing multiple frames. The system includes a load balancer to receive client requests from a client browser via a network. The requests are dispatched by a Web page having a first frame and a second frame. The system further includes a number of servers coupled to the load balancer to process the requests routed by the load balancer. Each server executes a software code to generate a new uniform resource locator (URL) and return a redirect message with the new URL to the client browser in response to (1) a request received from a requesting frame to load data object for a target frame and (2) the owner of the requesting frame is different from the owner providing the data object. When the client browser receives the redirect message with the new URL, the browser dispatches a new request using the new URL to the server specified by the new URL.
