  • Patent number: 4318280
Abstract: A power turbine rotor drive shaft has a flanged end connected to a turbine rotor disc supported by a rotor bearing housing so as to be rotatably supported by a turbine rotor bearing assembly at one end of the shaft and including a second splined end thereon coupled to a shaft extension supported at one portion thereof by a roller bearing shaft assembly and wherein the shaft has a predetermined fundamental bending vibration mode between the rotor bearing assembly and the shaft bearing assembly and wherein an insert sleeve is shrunk-fit within an inside diameter of the shaft to stiffen the shaft so as to increase the fundamental bending vibration mode of the resultant composite shaft without excessively increasing the weight of the composite shaft.

  • Patent number: 4237614
Abstract: An adjustable locator for positioning furring strips on a supporting surface in desired spaced relation provides an elongated body member with a hooked end that engages a first furring strip and has a channel-shaped member in spaced relation thereto for holding a second furring strip so as to locate it on the supporting surface.

  • Patent number: 4217755
Abstract: An air cooled gas turbine engine includes a coolant flow control valve for regulating flow of compressor discharge air to a turbine rotor in accordance with compressor discharge pressure and the operating temperature of an air cooled turbine component of the engine and wherein the coolant flow control valve is associated with a seal having a fixed stator member connected to a compressor frame and a movable labyrinth seal rotor driven in response to gas turbine engine operation to seal between high and low pressure regions; the coolant flow control valve including a pressurizable chamber formed by the stator member and an annular member secured between the stator member and a movable leaf spring valve element that is subjected to compressor discharge pressure to close the valve element at engine cruise conditions and wherein means are provided responsive to temperature of the turbine component to bleed the pressurizable chamber to cause the bellows to bias the valve element into an open position thereby to mod

  • Patent number: 4213738
Abstract: An air cooled gas turbine engine includes a cooling flow valve for regulating cooling air flow to a turbine rotor in accordance with compressor discharge pressure and the operating temperature of the turbine component by means of a pressurizable diaphragm carrying a movable valve element with respect to a fixed valve seat and wherein means are associated with the diaphragm to define a pressurizable internal cavity communicated with compressor discharge pressure by means of a control orifice to bias the diaphragm and valve element into a closed position when the compressor discharge pressure is at engine cruise condition and wherein as the temperature of operating turbine blades increase means are provided to sense such temperature increase and to bleed air from the pressurizable chamber thereby to cause the movable valve element to cycle with respect to the fixed valve seat so as to modulate coolant flow to the turbine in a manner to maintain optimized engine power output along with improved fuel consumption

  • Patent number: 4195717
Abstract: A combination clutch and brake unit for an engine driven lift fan propeller system controls power transfer from an engine to a propeller assembly and includes a clutch selectively operated by a hydraulic piston between engaged and disengaged positions to couple a drive input to a drive output and wherein a carriage for a hydraulic piston in a clutch supports a movable brake component and shifts it with respect to a fixed reaction brake member to brake the output shaft of the device to prevent free wheeling of the lift fan propeller when it is decoupled from the engine and wherein the clutch piston is biased into its decoupled position by return springs that also maintain the brake components in an engaged positon when the clutch is decoupled.

  • Patent number: 4099589
Abstract: An electric car is provided with a DC drive motor powered by a conventional storage battery and an AC drive motor powered by the combination of an AC generator driven by an auxiliary internal combustion engine. The car may be driven by the DC motor alone, for example during short range stop and go driving, or it may be driven by the AC motor alone, for example during relatively constant speed long range driving, or it may be driven by both motors in combination when increased power is required.
