  • Patent number: 6104497
Abstract: A method for converting an analog document reproduction device to a digital document reproduction device is provided, wherein the analog document reproduction device has a light source for illuminating at least a portion of a document, a mirror for receiving the illumination reflected by the document, a first lens for receiving the illumination from the mirror and for projecting said illumination onto a photoconductor. The photoconductor is capable of converting the illumination into a toner image of the document. The method comprises the steps of providing an assembly having a second lens for receiving the illumination reflected from the document and having a light conversion member for converting the illumination into a voltage signal. The assembly is installed in the analog document reproduction device so that the assembly can receive the illumination reflected from the document in a digital mode.

  • Patent number: 5067355
Abstract: A method and apparatus for determining the power output of a gas turbine engine utilizes a speed sensor coupled to the engine shaft and a signal developed by a pyrometer coupled to the engine turbine for determining engine temperature. The speed sensor is normally provided in the engine for determining shaft speed and is part of the control system for the engine. The pyrometer is provided also as part of the control system to monitor gas turbine temperatures. A signal from the speed sensor derived from a toothed wheel passing adjacent the sensor is processed to obtain a train of pulse signals representative of angular rotation of the engine shaft. The pyrometer is mounted adjacent at least one of the turbine disks of the engine for detecting instantaneous temperature of each blade of the turbine disk as it passes by the pyrometer. The signal developed by the pyrometer is therefore a signal having peaks corresponding to passage of each blade at the pyrometer.

  • Patent number: 4942294
Abstract: An optical fiber system for gathering and transmitting data about a plurality of operating parameters in an aircraft gas turbine engine is disclosed. Broadband light from a light source is conducted through an optical fiber to a wavelength splitter/combiner which separates the received light signal into a number of discrete output wavelengths. Each wavelength is transmitted to a corresponding optical switch which is responsive to a monitored engine or environmental parameter to reflect all, none or a portion of the received light wavelength. The wavelength splitter/combiner multiplexes the reflected wavelengths into a single signal containing information pertaining to all monitored parameters.
